Chapter 23 -- Several Weeks Later
Sabrina's belly
_ Sabrina was now 37 weeks pregnant. She had never been so
miserable before in her life. From what she could remember, her pregnancy was
not this rough with Cody. She couldn’t understand why things were still so
complicated. Nick was no longer in her life. She hadn’t seen him in months. She
hadn’t been to work in months. What was the problem? Sabrina would wonder.
Kevin would still come around and spend the night at times with Sabrina in her small temporary 2 bedroom apartment.
Sabrina’s fingers had become so swollen she could no longer bear to wear her wedding ring. Several weeks ago she had stopped wearing it. However, she kept it in her jewelry box. She never sent Nick any divorce papers because she felt she simply didn’t have the time. As far as she was concerned, her and Nick were officially separated and might as well had been divorced. She just couldn’t believe how he never kept in contact with her to even see how their baby was doing. Sabrina vowed to forget about Nick so she wouldn’t have to stress about him. However, the thought of keeping him out of her mind didn’t work…especially when she was carrying his child.
Sabrina had been hospitalized for the last 3 weeks due to the threat of going into labor. Kelly had been by her side ever since she went back into the hospital. Kelly was sitting in the hospital room with Sabrina eating a chicken sandwich from Chick-Fil-A restaurant. She was flipping thru a baby magazine picking out different décor for the baby’s room when Sabrina moves back to Atlanta.
“Im telling you, Brin…Im really feeling the baby Disney décor. It’s so freaking cute!” Kelly said with a smile.
Sabrina faintly smiled feeling weak. “Yeah… I guess so.”
Kelly’s smile faded when she noticed Sabrina wasn’t looking too good.
“Brin are you okay?”
“I feel like…Im about to have a contraction or something.” Sabrina said sitting back and placing her hand on her large belly.
Kelly stood up to get a better look at her. “You want me to call the nurse?”
Sabrina began to grimace in pain. She gasped in pain.
“Yes…please…” Sabrina finally responded.
Kelly quickly pushed the nurse’s button.

Rehab Treatment Center
_ Nick stood up and walked over to the table full of
refreshments. He looked down at his watch and saw that the time was 1:35pm. It
had been a long boring day at the treatment center. It was group day and
everyone had just been released for a 15 min break. Nick had been in this rehab
treatment center for several weeks now. He hadn’t taken any pain pills for over
a month. So far, so good, he thought. Considering listening to the other people there in the treatment center with him, Nick thought his
issues were seriously not as critical as the issues that other people had.
Nick proceeded to fill his plate with finger sandwiches and a couple of grapes and strawberries.
“Damn…I was hoping you didn’t pick that strawberry. It looks so juicy.” Said a female’s voice who was now standing beside Nick.
Nick looked up to see the therapist’s assistant, Diana, standing beside him with a broad smile.
Nick smiled back. “I take it you want me to give up this strawberry?”
“Yeah…you’re totally holding it as hostage. Seriously, I had my eye on that strawberry.” Diana laughed.
Nick joined her laughter. “Sorry. You snooze you lose. Unless we’re talking some type of ransom that is involved.” Nick teased her as he grinned.
Diana laughed and tossed her head back allowing her long blonde hair to swing behind her shoulder.
“You are too funny and cute. I love it.” she smiled.
“Thanks. You’re a little comedian yourself.”
Diana smiled. “Thank you.”
“You’re like a comedian and a super model combined into one.”
Diana placed a finger sandwich into her plate and looked at Nick as her cheeks flushed red.
“Are you flirting with me Mr. Nicholas Lancaster?”
Nick chuckled. “Me? Flirting? Nooo…”
Diana laughed.
“…Im just speaking the truth.” Nick added.
Diana started to gaze at Nick as he continued to fix his plate.
“Oh…by the way…Im releasing the hostage. Here ya go.” Nick said as he placed the strawberry into her plate with his fork.
He smiled at her giving her a wink and walked away. Diana blushed as she smiled back at him and watched him walk back to his seat.

Gainesville Hospital
_ Kelly walked back into Sabrina’s room and quickly rushed to
her bedside and grabbed her hand.
“Is Cody here?” Sabrina asked as she winced in pain feeling a contraction.
“Yes, honey. Derek picked him up safe and sound."
“Did you call, Raven?” Sabrina asked holding her belly.
“Yes. She said she was going to try and get out of work and hit the road as soon as she can. She was so excited when I told her you were in labor."
Sabrina groaned out loud in pain while squeezing Kelly’s hand.
“Oh yeah…I felt that one.” Kelly said feeling her hand numb from Sabrina squeezing it.
“Can I please get an epidural?” Sabrina begged.
“No ma’am. I don’t think you want it now, do you? You have only dilated 2 centimenters.” Nurse Jackie responded as she worked on some things in the room.
“Not fair. Not fair.” Sabrina groaned.
“Brin…is there anyone else you want me to call? Someone like…Nick?” Kelly asked.
Sabrina rested her head back on her pillow and shook her head no.
“No. I don’t want him here.” Sabrina said cradling her belly.

Nick & Diana
_ Nick was walking to his dad’s car in the parking lot after
leaving the rehab treatment center when he heard someone call out his name.
“Hey Nick! Wait up!”
Nick turned around to see Diana. Her long blonde hair flapped in the wind as she rushed to catch up to him.
“Hey…what’s up?” Nick grinned as he squinted his eyes from the sun. “Not much.” Diana said with a smile and trying to catch her breath. She cleared her throat. “I probably shouldn’t be doing this…but I wanted to ask you a question.”
Nick lightly shrugged his shoulders saying, “Okay…what’s up?”
Diana took a deep breath as if she were nervous to ask him anything. “I was wondering if you had any plans right now? Today’s session was a long one, and I don’t know about you, but those finger sandwiches only wet my appetite.”
Nick chuckled.
Diana continued, “Hungry? Want to get some dinner … or …something?”
“Or something? Sounds interesting. But yeah…I could use some sustenance. I can eat.” Nick stated flirtatiously.
“Great. My treat.” Diana said as she tapped his arm.
“I’ll follow you.”
“Sounds great.” Diana said looking over her shoulder at him as she walked toward her car.
Diana ended up taking Nick to a seafood restaurant. They were now sitting at a table across from each other. Diana couldn’t help but keep a smile on her face as she stared at Nick. She thought he was so handsome.
“So…tell me, Nick. What’s your story? I mean…besides the pain pills and your days back in college and the concussions.”
Nick laughed. “Well…that is my story. That’s pretty much all me.”
Diana laughed. “Alright, fine! I’ll come right out and ask. Do you have a girlfriend or anything? I just find it hard that a nice looking guy like yourself only has drugs as his baggage.” She smiled while tucking her blonde hair behind her ear.
Nick took a deep breath. Clearly she had no idea how much baggage he had.
“Well…I can honestly say that no, I don’t have a girlfriend. However, baggage…that, my dear…is an understatement of the year.”
Diana’s smile slightly faded yet she kept a pleasant expression. “What do you mean?”
“Tell me your story? You hear me talk all the time…what’s your story?”
“I don’t technically hear you talk all the time. I just come in sometimes at the group sessions to check on you guys. Well…more specifically…on you.” She gave Nick a flirtatious look.
----------------------------
Sabrina felt like she wanted to cry because she was feeling so much pain with each contraction.
“Aunt Kelly, did you tell Kevin?”
Kelly rolled her eyes. “Really? You want me to tell him?” Kelly asked in disbelief.
“Please just do it!” Sabrina yelled at her aunt. Sabrina then regretted yelling at her aunt. “Oh…Im sorry, aunt Kelly. Im just in pain right now…you understand, right?”
“Of course sweetie. I’ll call him, but I know you don’t want him in here, do you?”
“No…I don’t care.”
“I’ll call him, but no, he will not come back here, okay, Brin?”
“Whatever, I don’t care!” Sabrina said raising her voice toward the end as she felt another contraction.
----------------------------
“I think you have come a long way since you came to the treatment center. It’s not easy to get over an addiction.” Dianna said taking a sip of her iced tea.
“Thanks.” Nick smiled at her from across the table. “But how would you know? You seem like the perfect person.”
“Oh, believe me…I am not perfect. But I did have an addiction. As crazy as some people may feel it is…but, I was addicted to food.”
Nick gave her a confused expression.
“Yeah. I used to be very obese. And I conquered my inner demons and became healthy.” “Congrats. Im sure you were just as beautiful then as you are now.”
Diana blushed and smiled at him. “Why thank you. You are very sweet.”
Nick smiled back at her as he took a sip of his iced water.
“For me, it was family that was my motivation to get better. So…how about you? What was your motivation to come here.” Diana asked as she buttered the rolls the waiter left on the table. “Family as well.” Nick said looking down at his sweating glass of ice water.
He thought about Sabrina and the words she said to him prior to getting help for his addiction. He then thought about his kids, as well as Cody and the anger in his eyes whenever Cody looked at him.
Nick continued as he slowly raised his eyes up at Diana. “I know I had to do it for myself but family is what made me realize I really had a problem. I can’t have my kids looking at me any different knowing what I was doing, ya know?”
Diana raised an eye brow in shock to hear him say ‘his kids’.
She smiled, “So…you do have baggage! The truth comes out.” She giggled teasing him.
Nick chuckled. “Yeah.”
“Awe, look at you. I can tell they brighten your day. How many do you have and what are their ages?” Diana asked gazing into his eyes.
Nick smiled, “I have two…and one on the way. Actually probably in any day now.”
Diana’s smile slowly faded. “Oh! Wow…congratulations! I had no idea…how old are the other two?”
“I have a little girl who not long ago had a birthday. She just turned 5 and I have a son who is 4 months old.”
Diana gave him a confused expression. How could he have a 4month old and one that is due in any day now?
“Oh…I thought you said—“
“Oh, yeah…uhmm…I have two different…baby mothers…which sounds so bad as I say those words out loud.” Nick lightly chuckled interrupting Diana as he spoke in deep thoughts.
“Oh…” Diana simply responded.
“My estranged wife is pregnant now…”
“You’re married?!” Diana asked slightly stunned as she looked down at his ring finger looking for a wedding band.
Nick saw her gesture. He held his hand out slightly as he looked at the missing ring from around his finger.
“Oh yeah…that…well…we’ve been separated for a few months now.” Nick looked at Diana and saw her stunned expression and how she was trying to hide it. Nick chuckled. “Like I said…baggage is an understatement.”
Diana giggled.
She didn’t immediately respond as she continued to gaze into his eyes.
“Well…it’s not like Im looking for a relationship with you or anything.” she slowly stated with a smirk.
Nick stared at her with a blank expression.
“Your session is coming to an end…I was just kind of hoping you and I could…you know…just have…fun together. I mean…if you were into …fun…” Diana said as she blushed and tucked her blonde hair behind her ear avoiding his eye contact.
It dawned on Nick that she just wanted to have sex with him. He wasn’t looking for a relationship either. Although…he hadn’t had fun in several months. It was actually the longest he has gone without fun in a super long time.
Nick gazed back into her blue eyes and spoke in a heavy soft voice, “I think we can do that. It sounds like fun.” Nick couldn’t help but grin at the thought.
Diana giggled and smiled flirtatiously at him.

Dr. Addison
_ Hours into her labor, Sabrina was still not able to receive
the epidural. Kelly was at her bedside dabbing her forehead with a cold damp
wash cloth.
“Hey Sabrina…how are you holding up, hun?” Dr. Addison asked as she stepped into her hospital room.
“I need drugs, doc. Please give it to me.” Sabrina begged as she laid in her bed toward her side.
Dr. Addison put on some latex gloves and faintly smiled at Sabrina. “Well…let’s see what’s going on before giving you the epidural, okay?”
Dr. Addison spoke to the nurses in the room and before Sabrina knew it, she was lying on her back with her legs propped up and Dr. Addison lowered herself on a stool to examine her.
“Let’s see what’s going on…” Dr. Addison said out loud.
Seconds later, Dr. Addison stood up and took her latex gloves off. “Okay, she’s not dilating, she’s still at 2 centimeters.” Dr. Addison told nurse Jackie. She then looked at Sabrina and patted her leg. “Keep hanging in there, okay, sweetie. We don’t want to stress the baby too much. But if things don’t get any faster, we will do a cesarean. I’ll be back to check on you.” Dr. Addison said.
She then walked out of the room with nurse Jackie.
Kelly continued to dab Sabrina’s forehead to keep her cool.
“Aunt Kelly, I just want this to be over with. I just want this baby out.” Sabrina complained.
Kelly couldn’t help but laugh, “I know sweetie. I know.”
“I thought they said the second child was always easier than your first.” Sabrina pouted as she felt a small contraction. Sabrina then continued, “Where’s Nick? I want him here. Is he here?” “Sweetie, you told me you didn’t want me to call him."
“Call him…please? Please, call him… I want him here.”
“Okay…are you sure?”
Sabrina nodded her head yes as she rested her head against her pillow.
Kelly quickly excused herself out into the corridor to call Nick from her cell phone.
--------------------------
“Wow, Im stuffed. Dinner was good.” Nick said as he sat back in his chair patting his full stomach. Diana flipped her hair behind her shoulder and smiled at him. “So…are you ready for dessert?” She winked at him.
Nick chuckled.
Before he had a chance to respond, Nick’s cell phone rang in his pocket. He took his phone out and saw Kelly’s cell phone number. He slightly furrowed his brows. He looked up at Diana saying, “Excuse me, I need to take this call for a second.”
Diana nodded ‘okay’.
Nick answered his phone, “Hello?”
“Nick, hey, it’s me Kelly.”
“Hey…” Nick said waiting for her to continue.
“It’s happening, Nick. Brin is in labor. You better get here…quick.”
Nick’s eyes went wide in shock. He quickly stood up from the table.
Diana looked up at him waiting to hear what was wrong.
“Uhh…uhh…really?”
Kelly smiled to hear the panic in his voice. “Yes, really. Hurry and get here.”
“Where are you? Where is she?”
“She’s in the same place, Gainesville Hospital on the 5th floor. She’s asking for you, so hurry up. I gotta go, I can hear her calling for me. Hurry and get here, Nick.” Kelly rushed into the phone and ended the call.
Nick couldn’t believe it. She still wanted him there. That was great news. He brought the phone down from his ear and looked at Diana.
“What’s wrong? Is everything okay?” Dianna asked with concern.
Nick dug into his pocket to pull out his wallet to pay for the meal. “Im sorry…I have to go. My wife—I mean…yeah…uhh…Im having a baby, and she wants me there.” Nick said still not believing the words coming out of his mouth.
Diana giggled at his excitement. “That’s great, Nick. Congratulations!”
Nick smiled. “Thank you.”
“You better go. Go! Get out of here!”
Nick quickly grabbed his belongings and walked off. He quickly turned to her with apologetic eyes. “Im sorry.”
Diana giggled. “It’s okay. Go on, get out of here!” she laughed.
Nick smiled and quickly ran out of the restaurant they were in.
Nick hopped inside his car and quickly dialed his father’s cell phone.
“Make it quick, I gotta go to a meeting.” Keanu, Nick’s father answered the phone.
“Dad, I need a plane ticket to Gainesville, stat! Brin is in labor.” Nick smiled into the phone.
“Get the fuck outta here? Seriously?”
“Yeah. Can you get me a ticket?”
“Son, I can do better. I know a guy with a private plane who can get you there stat!”
“Okay well call him. Im packing up my stuff.”
“Whoa, whoa, wait a minute. You’re coming back right? You’re not staying down there are you? You still have another rehab session to get to don’t you?”
“Yea…I’ll be back in time for that. Just get me in that plane.”

_
Cody and Derek sat impatiently in the waiting room. It was 9:10pm. Cody took another sip of his fruit punch drink and sat down beside
Derek.
“Do I have to go to school tomorrow?” Cody asked resting his chin in the palm of his hand.
Derek wrapped his arm around Cody’s shoulder. “I don’t think your mom will mind if you missed at least one day of school. I mean, your new brother is coming…you deserve to have a day off.”
Cody smiled. “I agree!”
They both laughed lightly.
They both brought their attention to the doorway of the waiting room. There stood Kelly with a broad smile on her face. “He’s here! Seven pounds and three ounces. He is so adorable!”
Cody cheered as he ran up to Kelly and wrapping his arms around her waist giving her a big hug. Derek smiled and walked up to her giving her a hug as well. He pecked her lips.
“What did she name him?” Cody asked.
“She hasn’t yet. She said she was waiting on Nick.” Kelly said as her smile slowly faded wondering where Nick was. She looked around in the waiting room. “He’s still not here, huh?” Kelly said feeling disappointed.
“No.” Derek said solemnly.
“Can we see him?! How is mom?” Cody asked happily.
Kelly snapped out of her thoughts and looked down at Cody. She smiled, “Yes! C’mon let’s go!”
Cody and Derek walked into Sabrina’s hospital room and saw Raven holding the baby in her arms as she sat in the rocking chair at Sabrina's bed side. Cody rushed up to Raven to look at the baby.
“Aww…he’s cute!”
“Say hi to your new baby brother, Cody.” Raven smiled.
Derek walked up to Sabrina who looked so tired as she rested. “There she is. You did it! Congrats Brin.”
“Thank you.” Sabrina said in a weak voice.
“Mommy, what’s his name?” Cody asked loudly.
“Shh, Cody…don’t disturb him. We have to use our quiet voices.” Raven said sweetly to Cody. “Oh…sorry. Mom! What’s his name?” Cody whispered loudly.
Everyone laughed.
Sabrina looked at her aunt as if asking where Nick was with her eyes. Kelly lightly shrugged her shoulders and shook her head with disappointment. Raven looked at Sabrina and saw the disappointed look in her eyes as she tried to remain calm and not show her emotion.
Sabrina exchanged glances with Raven. Raven gave her an apologetic expression for Nick not showing up.
“Uhmm…I haven’t thought about it yet.” Sabrina finally responded to Cody. "For some reason, the name Jordan keeps popping in my head.”
“I think that’s perfect.” Kelly said as she rubbed Sabrina’s hand in comfort.
Cody looked at the baby in Raven’s arms. “What’s up, Jordan.”
The baby seemed to wave his hand up as if greeting Cody back.
“Awww…” Everyone said with broad smiles on their faces.
The baby then started to get fussy.
“Brin, I think he wants you mama.” Raven said as she stood up to hand him back over to Sabrina.
Later, after everyone had a chance to hold the new baby, including Cody, Nurse Jackie came into the room.
“Hello family! Did we come up with a name for our sweet new one?”
Everyone looked at Sabrina.
“Jordan. Jordan Nicholas Lancaster.” Sabrina responded as she looked down at her new baby.
Everyone loved the name. Kelly smiled and rested her head on Derek’s shoulder as he wrapped his arm around her.
“Beautiful.” Nurse Jackie said as she wrote his name on a piece of paper of the new baby’s information.

_ “By the way, there is a gentleman outside with a beautiful bouquet of daisies. He wanted me to come in to make sure it was okay for him to come in here. Shall I tell him to come in?” Nurse Jackie stated after she finished writing down more information for the newborn.
Sabrina knew it was Nick. Only he would come with daisies. She couldn’t help but smile at the thought. Yet she was pissed that he wasn’t there when she was giving birth. What took him so long? Sabrina wondered.
She then told the nurse, “Yeah…he can come in.”
The nurse smiled and walked toward the door.
To everyone’s surprise…it was Kevin. With his charming smile and a bouquet of daisies in his hands, Kevin walked into the hospital room.
“Hell naw.” Raven said quietly in her Georgia accent as she crossed her legs in the rocking chair. Kelly sighed out of annoyance. “Seriously? Can he wait?” Kelly whispered to Derek.
“Shhh..” Derek shushed Kelly.
“Im sorry to interrupt on the family time.” Kevin said with a smile.
“Kevin, come in, come in.” Sabrina said with a weak smile.
Kevin walked up closer to her bed side to get a closer look at her new baby boy.
“He’s a nice looking kid, Sabrina.”
Sabrina snickered. “Thank you.”
“Can I hold him?” Kevin asked.
Raven and Kelly exchanged glances not liking the idea. Everyone could sense the hesitation in Sabrina’s voice.
“Yeah…sure.” Sabrina handed a fidgety baby over to Kevin.
Raven stood up from the rocking chair and squeezed Cody’s shoulder. “Well…I think I should be taking Cody back home, now…he has school in the morning. Right, Cody?”
“Aww man…Derek said I didn’t have to go.”
“Whoa, whoa…” Derek said with a smirk feeling like Cody just snitched on him.
Everyone looked at Derek.
“Derek…why would you tell him that?” Sabrina asked.
Kelly nudged Derek in the rib.
Derek chuckled. “I mean, c’mon…his new brother is here…why would you torture him by making him go to school?”
Cody smiled at Derek as if giving him approval.
Sabrina laughed. “No, he needs to go to school. He only has two weeks left.”
“Aww mannnn.” Cody complained.
“Come here. Give me a hug. I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?” Sabrina stated.
Cody hugged Sabrina and kissed her cheek. “See ya tomorrow.” Cody said sadly.
“Alright mamasita, Im off to take Cody home and Im off to bed…or the sofa, or whatever feels better.” Raven said thinking of Sabrina’s temporary apartment she would be staying at while down in Florida. Raven continued, “A sistah is tired. And I didn’t do anything! Can you imagine if I had a baby? I wouldn’t be worth two pennies!”
Everyone laughed and said their goodbyes.
“Thanks Raven for coming down.” Sabrina added before Raven left.
“Girl…anything for you and my new nephew.” Raven smiled and winked at her. “I’ll see you bright and early tomorrow so Kelly can get some rest.”
Kelly smiled. “Thanks Rave! See you tomorrow. Bye Cody! Love you!”
"Love you too!” Cody said as he walked out of the hospital room with Raven.
There was an awkward silence left in the room as soon as Raven and Cody left. Kelly looked at the daisies Kevin had brought her niece. Kelly didn’t like Kevin. She thought him bringing those flowers were like a slap to Nick’s face. Everyone knew that Nick always gave Sabrina daisies.
Kevin proudly walked to the other side of Sabrina’s bed and sat down in the rocking chair as he held her baby boy, Jordan.
“So…this is the little man who has been keeping my girl up all night, eh?” Kevin said with a smile.
Kelly uncomfortably shifted her weight to one leg and cleared her throat. “Maybe we should all go and give Sabrina some rest. She’s had a long day.”
“No, Im fine. You all can stay.” Sabrina responded.
“Well maybe, Kevin should go…since you know, it’s just family here.” Kelly suggested.
Derek nudged her arm as if saying don’t start anything.
Sabrina plastered a smile on her face. “It’s fine, aunt Kelly. Everyone here is family. At least he’s here…unlike someone else.” Sabrina said slightly upset as she thought about Nick not showing up.
At that moment, there was a knock on the door and the door opened. It was Nick. He held a medium sized teddy bear and a big blue balloon that read: It’s a boy!
Nick’s eyes immediately drew to Kevin sitting in the rocking chair holding his son before he could even lay eyes on him. A rage of anger rushed thru out Nick’s body.
Derek obviously noticed the anger in Nick's eyes. He slowly walked up to Nick and spoke calmly saying, “Hey…let’s keep calm, alright?”
Nick nodded and brought his attention to Derek standing in front of him.
Nick faintly smiled. “Im okay. Really.”
“Really?” Derek asked in a low tone with concern.
“Yeah, man. Im good.” Nick reassured him as he walked passed him.
Kevin quickly stood up and handed baby Jordan over to Sabrina.
Kelly gave Nick a concerned look. “Hi, Nick.” Kelly spoke quietly.
“Hey, Kelly.” Nick said as he tried to avoid her eye contact.
Sabrina found herself trying to fix her hair and look appropriate when she saw Nick walk into the room. It had been a long time since she seen him. It was obvious he had let his hair grow out as he wore a bandana around his head pushing his long curls back away from his face. The striped shirt he wore fit nicely around his muscular arms and shoulders. Sabrina noticed that he hadn’t made eye contact with her since he walked into the room. But when their eyes met for a brief second, Sabrina quickly lowered her eyes to look down at Jordan in her arms.
“I should probably be going, now.” Kevin said stuffing his hands into his jeans.
“Thanks for coming,” Sabrina smiled.
“Anytime. Anything for you.” Kevin smiled.
He then leaned down and kissed Sabrina’s cheek. Nick frowned and clenched his jaw muscles as he watched Kevin lean down to kiss Sabrina on the cheek. It took everything he had not to launch across Sabrina’s bed and pummel him. However, Nick kept his calm as he took a quiet deep breath. Derek seem like he was ready to stop Nick if he even flinched a muscle.
Kevin avoided Nick’s eyes contact.
Just as he was moving away from Sabrina’s bed side, Nick blurted out saying, “Please. Don’t leave on my account. Stay.”
Kevin looked at Nick as if he weren’t sure he was being sarcastic or not. Kevin chuckled lightly showing his dimples. “No…I was leaving anyway. I have work in the morning. I’ll see you tomorrow, Sabrina.” Kevin said as he gave Sabrina one last look. He nodded his head to both Kelly and Derek and exited the room.
Nick looked at Sabrina and saw the yellow daisies sitting on a small cart. It pissed him off to know that someone else had brought that for her instead of him. It had been so long since he had seen Sabrina, and for all he knew, she and Kevin were probably a couple. Nick folded and licked his lips as he placed his hands in his black jean pockets. He looked down at the beautiful baby in Sabrina’s arms.
“May I?” Nick asked Sabrina.
Sabrina didn’t verbally respond. She simply handed him over to Nick.
“We’ll leave you two alone.” Derek said gently tugging on Kelly’s arm.
“We will?” Kelly said not wanting to leave.
“Babe, c’mon.” Derek said quietly to her.
“I’ll be right back, Brin.” Kelly said as Derek pulled her out of the room.
Nick kept his eyes on his newborn son as he cradled him in his arms. He looked at all of his fingers and felt his toes to make sure he had all ten toes.
“C’mon…open your eyes for daddy…” Nick said quietly to his newborn son.
Nick felt Sabrina’s eyes were burning into him. He raised his eyes to her direction, and sure enough she was staring at him.
“He’s healthy?” Nick asked.
Sabrina adjusted herself in her bed and rested her head against the pillow. “Yes.” Sabrina responded softly.
“That’s awesome.” Nick said in a quiet low tone, drawing his attention back to the baby in his arms.
Sabrina watched Nick slowly pace the floor as he cradled a cooing baby.
“You let your hair grow out.” Sabrina said acknowledging his different look.
“Oh…yeah…” Nick smirked as he ran his fingers thru his long curls.
Sabrina wished she had her phone so she could take a picture. She thought he looked so cute the way he had grinned while holding Jordan. But she couldn’t help but wonder why it took him so long to get there when he was the one who said he wanted to see his child be born.
Before she could say anything, she heard Nick say something first. “Thank you.”
Sabrina slightly frowned. “For what?”
“For having my healthy son.”
“Nick…where were you? I thought you wanted to be here for the delivery.”
“I know. Im sorry. I really hate that I missed it.”
“I thought you just didn’t care anymore.” Sabrina said with an attitude.
“No…that’s not true at all.” Nick said in defense.
He then walked over to the rocking chair and took a seat still holding his son. He lightly pressed his lips on his forehead.
“So where were you? With Joanna or something?” Sabrina asked with sarcasm.
“No.” Nick responded without looking at her.
“Nick!” Sabrina called out to him raising her voice forcing Nick to snap his head up to look at her. “Where were you? Why weren’t you here?” Sabrina started to get a little emotional. “Do you just like to hurt my feelings or what?”
“Baby...” Nick paused and corrected himself. “Brin, I never try to hurt your feelings, alright? I was in D.C. with my dad.”
Sabrina laughed sarcastically. “Yeah…okay. If that’s the best you can come up with…fine.” Sabrina said obviously not believing him.
Nick leaned his head back against the rocking chair. “You don’t have to believe me, Brin.” he stated calmly.
“I know, because I don’t.” Sabrina said turning away from Nick.
Nick took a deep breath. He looked back down at his son and realized he didn’t know what she had named him.
“What did you decide to name him?”
“Well…it’s not like I can call him Nicholas Junior.” Sabrina stated sarcastically.
Nick didn’t respond.
“I named him Jordan.” Sabrina finally answered.
Nick smiled at the thought and looked down at his son, named Jordan. “I love it.” Nick responded softly.
Sabrina turned slightly on her side away from Nick, not saying anything else. Nick stood up and walked Jordan over to his small crib provided by the hospital. He saw that Sabrina was tired. He stepped up close to her bedside and looked down at her. Even though she was tired and worn down after just having a baby, he thought she looked absolutely beautiful.
“Brin…I see you’re tired. Im gonna go, so you can rest.”
Sabrina frowned. “What? Are you coming back tomorrow?” She pouted as she looked up at him. “Do you want me to?”
“Of course I do, you asshole.”
“Okay…fine…I will. I mean, I planned on to anyway. I’ll call before I come. I don’t want to be here when …your boyfriend is here.”
“What are you talking about? What boyfriend?”
Nick gestured toward the daisies on her small cart as he replied, “The guy who is obviously replacing me, that’s who.”
Sabrina smacked her teeth. “Whatever, Nick.”
Nick shook his head.
“Why are you being so…calm? You must be still taking your stupid pills. I swear, you never change, Nick.”
Nick looked away wondering was it her who was out to just hurt his feelings. He took a deep breath.
“Im sorry you feel that way, Brin.”
“You’re not even wearing your wedding ring.” Sabrina said with an attitude.
“Neither are you.” Nick quickly snapped back.
“I can’t. In case you haven’t noticed, im swollen all over.”
“Well, why should I wear it, when you don’t even want to be with me. Which by the way…Im waiting patiently for the divorce papers.”
“Okay, you know what? You can leave now. Bye!” Sabrina said with sarcasm.
Nick rolled his eyes. “I can’t win with you, Brin. I can’t.” Nick glanced down at Jordan, and simply walked out of the room.
Sabrina knew it was Nick. Only he would come with daisies. She couldn’t help but smile at the thought. Yet she was pissed that he wasn’t there when she was giving birth. What took him so long? Sabrina wondered.

Chapter 24 -- Two Weeks Later
_ “Are you and your dad having fun?” Sabrina asked as she held
the phone between her shoulder and her ear while holding Jordan in her arms
feeding him his bottle.
“Yep. It’s cool. I miss you though.” Cody responded.
“Aww sweetie, I miss you too. I’ll be up there in Atlanta with you in a few more days. I just have to make sure everything is squared away here.”
“Okay. Kiss Jordan for me.” Cody said with a smile.
“Okay, I will. I love you.”
“I love you more.” Cody said and ended the call.
Sabrina sat down at the table in her semi empty apartment. Her aunt Kelly and Derek had already taken the majority of her belongings back up to Atlanta. Cody has been staying with his father, Josh, who has now moved to Atlanta permanently. Sabrina stayed behind in Florida so she could tie up any loose ends with her temporary apartment she had been living in.
Kevin was visiting Sabrina every day. He continually tried to talk her into staying there in Florida, but Sabrina had already made her mind up, long ago to move to Atlanta. She hadn’t seen Nick or talked to him since that day Jordan was born. Sabrina couldn’t believe Nick was ignoring her son…his son, Jordan…when he was always around for Joanna’s son, Nicky. She couldn’t understand why. It really hurt her feelings. Because of that, she decided to file for divorce. She saw a divorce attorney the day before. All Nick would have to do is sign the papers like he said he would.
Sabrina took the bottle away from Jordan’s lips and brought him up on her shoulder and began patting his back wanting him to burp.
“Yep.
_ At that moment, Sabrina heard her door open. It was Kevin.
“Hey gorgeous.” Kevin said with his charming smile. Sabrina smiled as she paced the floor patting Jordan’s small back. “Hi.”
Kevin walked up to her and gave her a peck on the lips. “You look extra pretty today. Going somewhere special?”
Sabrina snickered. “I look extra pretty? Why, thank you. Im just tired of looking like a bum, so, I decided to get dressed. How was work?”
“Ahhh…work is work.” Kevin said taking Jordan from her.
Sabrina handed Jordan over to him while she stood back and watched him with Jordan. She placed her hands into her back pockets of her blue jean shorts she wore.
“Are people still talking about me quitting my job?” Sabrina asked.
Kevin rubbed his nose against Jordan’s small nose as he lightly bounced him in his arms. He then responded, “Well…you know Zoe always has something to say.” He then proceeded to speak in a female’s voice mocking Zoe, “I told you! You should have just hired me from the start!” Kevin laughed at himself. “Not a day goes by that she doesn’t let everyone know how she feels about that position.”
Sabrina didn’t see the humor in the things Kevin was saying like he did. She suddenly felt annoyed.
“Yeah…well…I hope I can get my job back with Mr. Sean Connery. My friend Raven is working on that for me.”
“Yeah, well good luck with that.” Kevin said as if Sabrina didn’t have a chance.
Sabrina furrowed her brows slightly. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Im just saying…” Kevin said repositioning Jordan in his arms as he started to whine and become fidgety. “Look…why don’t you just stay here... in Florida. Cody can stay in Atlanta, and then me…you…Jordan…we can stay together.” Kevin walked slowly up to Sabrina forcing her to lean against the kitchen counter. “Maybe…you and I can start a family of our own. I would love it if you could have my child.”
Sabrina frowned. “What? I don’t think so.” Sabrina tsked and moved him away from her. “Don’t start acting all weird on me now, Kevin. You know where we stand.”
Kevin only stared at her. He watched her move about as she began cleaning out baby bottles. His eyes roamed her body from her bare feet slowly up her legs. Up to her thighs and over her butt. He watched her as the v-neck blouse she wore hung low exposing majority of her swollen breasts where he could see the rim of the green bra she wore. Kevin was tired of playing the nice guy. All Sabrina ever allowed him to do was to kiss her. He wanted more. And now she was leaving. She was leaving before he could ever have her the way he wanted her. However, he told himself to be patient. She would come around soon. Even if he had to follow her to Atlanta.
Kevin placed Jordan in a small swing for newborns. He then walked over to Sabrina who was still washing dishes. He wrapped his arms around her waist and nestled his face into the nook of her neck.
“Kevin…stop. What are you doing?”
He kissed her neck. “I want to come to Atlanta with you. I’ve never been there.”
Sabrina moved away. “What? No. I mean…you have your life here. Cody and I are just going to live our lives in Atlanta alone. I’ll miss you though.” Sabrina faintly smiled at him.
Kevin stepped away from her as he continued to stare at her. He then smiled and looked away. “Alright. Promise me you won’t lose contact with me. I want your cell phone number, house number, your home address, your email…and anything else you can think of.”
Sabrina giggled.
Kevin laughed. “C’mon…promise me…” he teased her.
Sabrina smiled. “Okay…I promise.”
At that moment, Jordan began to cry. Sabrina excused herself to take care of Jordan.
A few hours later, after Kevin had finally left to go home, Sabrina had dozed off with Jordan laying beside her on the sofa. A knock at her door allowed her eyes to abruptly open. She noticed the time and it read 8:48pm. She slowly moved away from the sofa without disturbing Jordan. She fixed her blouse as she reached the front door. She looked thru her peep hole and saw a familiar face.
Nick.
But how did he know where she lived? Sabrina wondered. She looked down at herself to make sure her clothes were presentable. She ran her fingers thru her hair and fluffed it prior to opening the door. She wasn’t sure why she was trying to primp herself…but she did.
Sabrina opened the door wide enough to fit her body between the door and the door frame. She looked up at his handsome face. He wore a thin, v-neck white long sleeve shirt, rolled up his forearms and black jeans. Sabrina noticed he had a fresh haircut compared to the last time she saw him. She thought he looked really nice and wondered if he were going on a date or something.
“What are you doing here?”
Nick stared at her admiring her glow. He smiled lightly. “Hi. I hope you don’t mind…but…Kelly gave me your address. Don’t be upset with her. I begged her because I didn’t want to give you the chance to deny me in seeing my son.”
Sabrina slightly rolled her eyes. “I wouldn’t deny you from seeing Jordan, Nick.”
“Well…that’s good to know.” Nick paused realizing she hadn’t backed away from the door so he could come inside. “So…can I see him? May I come in?”
Sabrina reluctantly opened the door wider allowing Nick to come into her apartment. “He’s lying on the sofa.” Sabrina said as she watched Nick step inside.
As he walked passed her she could smell his cologne. She thought he really smelled nice. She missed his intoxicating scent.

As he walked passed her she could smell his cologne. She thought he really smelled nice. She missed his intoxicating scent.
_ Nick smiled as he walked over toward Jordan. He immediately
picked him up and held him. Sabrina stood at the end of the sofa as she watched
Nick spend his time with Jordan. Sabrina found herself getting upset the more
she watched him. So many questions she had for him. She wondered if it was even
worth knowing the answers to her questions when clearly they were no longer together as a couple
or friends.
Sabrina cleared her throat. “Uuumm, you should be receiving the divorce papers soon.”
Nick didn’t respond. He closed his eyes shut at hearing the news. He then slowly opened his eyes and continued to look down at Jordan.
Sabrina shifted her weight to one leg as she folded her arms across her chest. “Did you hear what I said? I said—“
“I heard you, Brin.” Nick said in a low tone.
“Im leaving to Atlanta for good on Sunday.” Sabrina told Nick.
Nick didn’t respond.
Sabrina continued, “I’m asking for child support and full custody of Jordan.”
Nick looked up at Sabrina with a slight frown on his face. “Full custody?”
“Well…yeah.”
“I don’t think so.”
Sabrina frowned. “Why not? You’re never around as is. You’re not going to be around when I move to Atlanta. This is how it is, Nick. End of story.”
“No…it’s not the end of the story. Jordan is only 2 weeks old, and you’re already accusing me of not being here for my son?”
“Where have you been, Nick? You come and go as you please all the time, and Im sick of it.”
“I went back to D.C.”
“For what? You have a new girlfriend up there or something?”
“What do you care? You have Kevin now. You’re divorcing me, and kicking me to the curb…out of your life and my son’s life. Who gives a fuck what Im doing with my life, right?” Nick said angrily in a calm tone.
“Nick…im not going to argue with you anymore, okay? Im tired of fighting with you.”
“Then don’t, Brin! … Don’t.” Nick finished lowering his voice.
Sabrina didn’t respond.
She took a seat on the sofa beside Nick leaving a huge gap between the two.
“Im not with Kevin, by the way.” Sabrina said softly without making eye contact with Nick.
“Hey…it doesn’t really matter. You already filed for divorce…we are officially over. Who you’re with…is non of my business.” Nick said sadly as he adjusted Jordan in his arms as he became fidgety and began cooing.
“Is that why you wont tell me anything about you? Like where you’ve been and –“
“I told you where I’ve been. I was in D.C.” Nick said interrupting her.
Sabrina remained quiet for a moment. She then finally said, “Are you moving there or something? To live with your dad? I mean…what’s going on with you?”
Nick didn’t respond.
“Nick…Im trying to be your friend—“
“I don’t want to be your friend, alright Brin!” Nick raised his voice quickly interrupting her feeling annoyed.
Sabrina just stared at him for a moment noticing the seriousness on his face as he avoided her eye contact.
Nick leaned down and lightly kissed Jordan’s cheek and lightly brushed his nose against his. He could smell the sweet powdery scent of a baby that he adored so much. He then stood up and placed Jordan into Sabrina’s arms without looking at her.
Sabrina quickly took Jordan into her arms as Nick pretty much shoved Jordan into her. Sabrina looked up Nick. “Are you leaving?”
“Yeah.” Nick said quietly once he saw that Jordan was sitting securely in Sabrina’s arms.
Nick started to walk toward her door. He slowly stopped and turned to her, “Look…I realize you don’t want to be with me anymore…I get it. But are you really going to hurt me and get full custody of my son? I deserve every right with my son just like you.” Nick said with a frown.
“Just because I will have full custody doesn’t mean you won’t get to see him, Nick.” Sabrina said as she stood up cradling Jordan in her arms.
“You’re leaving town. Five hours away with my son. How do you think that makes me feel? Is that guy going with you? Do you really think Im going to allow that asshole to be a father to my son? It’s already fucked up that you let him hold my son before I could even see him! That’s fucked up, Brin, and you know it!”
“You weren’t there! You were never there! In case you haven’t noticed, Nick, that’s like a trend for you. It’s what you do best! Ever since I’ve known you!” Sabrina argued at him.
“Really, Brin? Are we really going thru this again?” Nick said in disbelief.
“It keeps coming up because you keep doing it! Nick, I don’t have time to argue with you. Im tired of fighting with you. If you’re going to leave, just leave.” Sabrina said as if she were disgusted with him.
“Fine.” Nick simply stated and yanked her front door open.
He stopped and turned around to her. “For your information, you haven’t exactly been there for me either. I was in D.C. at the rehab treatment center to better myself for my kids. I’ve been clean of pain pills for months now. But according to you, you’ve been accusing me of still taking them. Im sure you’re probably thinking Im lying now…but that’s just another example of you not being there for me and thinking Im always lying. People can change, Brin. You just have to give them a chance. A friend would know that.” Nick said as he glared at her.
He turned and simply walked away.
Sabrina was speechless. She had no idea. She walked out her door into the apartment breezeway and called out Nick’s name wanting him to stop. However, Nick kept walking without looking back. Sabrina huffed and quickly grabbed a blanket to cover Jordan from the night’s cool breeze. She quickly adjusted Jordan against her chest and ran out of the door, barefoot, toward the parking lot to stop Nick.
“Nick wait! Stop!” Sabrina yelled as she ran out into the parking lot behind him.
Nick turned around just in time to see her make an awkward move and almost fall to the ground as she held Jordan tightly against her. He heard her wince and cry out in pain. Nick quickly rushed back toward her to make sure she was okay. By the time he made it up to her, Sabrina had easily lowered herself to the ground.
“What are you doing out here barefoot?” Nick asked with concern.
Sabrina winced in pain trying to look at her foot. She had stepped on something and now blood was dripping down her foot. Sabrina said a curse feeling pain.
Nick leaned down to examine her foot. Nick saw a large nail impaled into her foot. Nick mumbled a curse and pulled out the nail. Sabrina cried out in pain and wanted to kick Nick away for making the pain worse.
“Sorry.” Nick said quietly as he still examined her foot. “Does it feel better?”
“No! Something else is still in it…I can feel it. It hurts…take it out!” Sabrina responded.
It was dark outside and he couldn’t see anything else. He then looked around on the ground wondering what else could be in her foot. The moon light shined on a shimmering pieces of glass on the ground that came from a shattered broken bottle.
“It’s probably glass.” Nick could hear Jordan began to whine as blood slowly oozed out from Sabrina's foot.
Nick stood up and began picking Sabrina up bridal style.
“No, I can walk.” Sabrina protested.
“Just hold on to Jordan.” Nick said as he went ahead and picked her up ignoring her protest.
Sabrina was impressed how easy it was for Nick to swoop her up while she held on to their baby. Sabrina knew she didn’t weigh what she used to weigh pre-baby, and yet, it was so easy for him to just carry her back into her apartment without any struggles.
As Nick carried her into her apartment, there was a trail of blood droplets left on the ground and the floor of her apartment. Nick walked into her bathroom and sat her on the sink counter. Jordan began crying. Sabrina tried to calm him by bouncing him in her arms. She looked up at Nick saying, “Can you please bring me his bottle? It's on the kitchen counter.”
“Yeah.” Nick quickly responded as he placed a towel on the bathroom floor to prevent leaving a small puddle of her blood on the floor.
Within a couple of seconds, Nick returned with the bottle in his hand.
“Thanks.” Sabrina said softly as she quickly inserted the nipple of the bottle into Jordan’s mouth. Jordan suddenly stopped crying as he sucked on his bottle.
Sabrina then began watching Nick as he attended to her foot.
“Slide back so I can raise your foot higher.” Nick said in a low tone.
Sabrina did just so. She leaned her back against the mirror wall allowing Nick to raise her leg up so he could examine her foot better.
“Do you still have your tweezers?” Nick asked remembering how she always kept tweezers in the bathroom.
“Yeah. They are in that drawer.” Sabrina replied softly.
Nick looked in the drawer she was referring to and immediately noticed the tweezers. He then went back to her foot and raised her leg high so he could see the bottom of her foot.
He began picking at the glass to remove it from her foot. Sabrina flinched and suck thru her teeth in pain every time she felt him dig into her foot. At every flinch she made or noise she made thru her teeth, Nick would say, “Sorry.” And continue working at the glass in her foot.
Sabrina couldn’t help but keep her eyes on him admiring how handsome he looked when he was so serious. It was obvious he was concentrating trying to remove the glass from her foot as he furrowed his brows.
Sabrina flinched again moving her foot back saying, “Ouch!”
“Babe, I need you to hold still.” Nick said still keeping his eyes on her foot.
Sabrina realized that was the second time he had called her ‘babe’ or ‘baby’. She had to admit, it made her feel good. She missed hearing him call her that.
Sabrina looked down at Jordan to get her mind off of what Nick was doing to her foot. Jordan looked like he was dozing off to sleep. She then heard Nick say, “Got it.” He held up a moderate sized piece of glass with the tweezers. She then watched him grab the alcohol and began cleaning the bottom of her foot. Sabrina flinched when she felt the cold liquid on her skin and the burning sensation.
“Do you have any bandages?” Nick asked as he finally made eye contact with her.
“I think they are still in that drawer where the tweezers are.” Sabrina said gazing back into his eyes.
He lowered her leg down as he moved closer to the drawer and searched for the bandages.
“Ah-ha.” Nick said when he found the bandages.
He smiled realizing they were the same box that he had bought when Cody had hurt his knee when skateboarding a long time ago. Nick’s smile slowly faded when he walked back over to Sabrina. He looked down at her bare smooth legs. He placed his hand around the back of her leg and slowly glided his hand down to her ankle while raising her leg up so he could see the bottom of her foot. Sabrina kept her eyes on him and noticed how he looked at her legs.
He gently wrapped the bandage around her foot. He would occasionally raise his eyes up to hers and saw how she stared at him. Nick cleared his throat and spoke softly, “I never meant for you to come running outside after me….barefoot.”
Sabrina smiled. “Yeah…it’s all your fault. I told you to stop.” She teased him.
Nick quietly chuckled as he continued to wrap her foot.
Sabrina’s smile slowly faded. “Nick…Im proud of you for getting help. I think that’s awesome. Im sorry to have thought otherwise. I’ve been such an ass when it came to that, and Im sorry.”
Nick finished wrapping her foot and placed the bandages on the counter beside her and lowered her leg. “Thanks.” He said as he looked at her. He then looked down at Jordan and saw that he was sound asleep.
“Nick…Im not trying to keep you from Jordan, alright? Im sure we can work things out”.
Nick looked away from her and took a deep breath. “Yep.”
Sabrina lowered her eyes down to his shirt and noticed he had droplets and light smears of blood on his white shirt.
“Oh no…look at your shirt. I’m sorry.”
Nick looked down at his shirt and lightly held it out for him to examine it. “It’s all good. Shit happens.” He then raised his eyes to look at Sabrina. “At least you and Jordan are okay. That’s all that matters.”
‘Awww.’ Sabrina thought in her mind as she looked at Nick.
Sabrina then attempted to maneuver herself from off the counter saying, “Well, at least let me clean it for you.”
As she hopped off the counter she landed on her bandaged foot and immediately felt pain causing her to stumble into Nick’s arm as he helped to catch her balance.
“Whoa…are you okay?” Nick asked with concern.
Sabrina looked up into Nick’s eyes. Her eyes quickly lowered down to his full lips and back up to his eyes. She couldn’t remember the last time they were physically so close to each other without screaming into each other’s faces.
She licked her lips and responded, “Yeah. Im fine.”
Nick slowly backed away from her and looked down at her foot. He then looked down at Jordan in her arms. “Here…I’ll take him. You need to focus on how you’re going to walk around.”
Sabrina giggled as she allowed Nick to take Jordan from her. Sabrina held on to the wall as she limped out of the bathroom.
Nick placed Jordan into the small bassinet in her bedroom while Sabrina made her way into the kitchen. Just as Nick placed Jordan into the bassinet, his cell phone rang in his pocket. Nick answered the call not recognizing the number that was calling him.
“Hello?”
“This is Alachua County Jail. You have a collect call from – Nick it’s me Jo! – to take this call, please wait for the beep and a charge of $2 per minute will be billed to your services. If you do not want to take this call, please hang up now…..” the voice recording finished.
Nick frowned realizing Joanna was in jail. He waited for the beep. “Jo?” Nick said into the phone.
“Oh my God, Nick…please tell me you’re back home and not in D.C?”
“Yeah, Im here. What the hell, Jo?”
“Nick, please come get the kids! I got into a fight and the police have the kids. Please come get them! Please!” Joanna panicked into the phone.
“What!” Nick heard her begin to cry.
“Please Nick!”
“Im on my way. I’ll be there in a second!” Nick ended the call.
He couldn’t believe Joanna got into a fight while having the kids. Nick rushed into the living room where he saw Sabrina coming out of her kitchen.
“I found this Tide To Go stick, I hope this will help with those blood stains on your shirt.” Sabrina smiled when she saw Nick. Her smiled faded when she saw a disturbed expression on his face. “What’s wrong?” Sabrina immediately asked.
“I have to get Joss and Nicky. I really have to go.”
“Is everything okay?” Sabrina asked with concern.
“I hope so.” Nick said as he looked at her with apologetic eyes. He turned for the door.
“Nick!” Sabrina called out to him.
Nick turned around to face her as he opened her door.
“Thank you.” Sabrina said gesturing to her foot.
“No problem.” Nick said with a pleasant expression.
He then exited out of her apartment.
Sabrina cleared her throat. “Uuumm, you should be receiving the divorce papers soon.”
Nick didn’t respond. He closed his eyes shut at hearing the news. He then slowly opened his eyes and continued to look down at Jordan.

Part 2
Melissa (Joanna Mom)
_ Nick walked up to the jail house and saw Joanna’s mother
coming out with a scowl on her face as she held her grandson, Nicky, in his car seat in one
hand and held Josslyn’s hand in the other. Nick dreaded to have to step up to her.
“Daddy!” Josslyn released Melissa’s hand and ran to Nick.
Nick quickly swooped Joss up into his arms. “Hey baby, are you okay?” “Daddy, mommy got in trouble.” Josslyn said as she wrapped her arms around Nick’s neck.
Nick looked at Melissa, Joanna's mom, as she marched up to him.
“You go in there and get your little girlfriend. I am so done with her! Putting my grandchildren in harms away. The state could have taken them away from her. And you... doing God’s know what out in the streets. Neither one of you are responsible adults! Im sick of you both! YOU get her ass out if you want to. Come on, Josslyn.” Melissa said angrily as she tugged on Josslyn’s hand around Nick.
“No! I want my daddy!” Josslyn whined.
“It’s okay baby…go with grandma. I will see you later, okay?” Nick said placing Josslyn down to the ground as he frowned.
“Daddy! Nooooo! I want to go with you!”
“Come on, little girl. Your daddy has to go get your ignorant mother. Let’s go!” Melissa angrily pulled on Josslyn’s hand away from Nick.
“I love you baby, I promise I will be back, okay?!” Nick told Josslyn.
It hurt Nick to see Melissa treat Josslyn so mean, but he knew she was just angry with Joanna and he had yet to see what was going on. She obviously wanted Nick to get her daughter out of jail. Nick coldn’t allow the mother of his kids to stay in jail. Especially when Josslyn saw whatever went down.
Nick frowned as he made his way into the jail house. He spoke to a bail bondsman and realized that he had to pay five hundred dollars to get her out of jail. Nick reluctantly paid the money to get her out of jail. Nick waited patiently for them to bring her out.

Joanna
_ Several minutes later, Joanna walked out. Nick was so pissed
off with her. He didn’t say a word to her when he saw her. He simply stood up and
walked toward his car with her closely following behind him.
Once they got into Nick’s car, Joanna buckled her seat belt and glared at Nick. “Thank you.”
Nick started the car and glanced over at her. He noticed a few scratches on her face. She looked like she was in a fight.
“Who did you get into a fight with? And why in the hell are you getting in a fight when you have the kids with you? What the fuck is wrong with you?” Nick stated as he looked at her in anger. “Do you know what could have happened to our kids? Do you understand that?”
“Im sorry! I heard enough shit from my mother, I don’t need you yelling at me too!” Joanna shouted looking out the window.
“What happened, Jo?”
“Are you on drugs?”
“What?!”
“Are you fucking Ariana?”
Nick looked at her with a confused expression. “What are you talking about?”
“Ariana was running at the mouth! So I popped her ass.”
Nick was confused. “Start from the beginning, Jo. You’re not making any sense!” Nick said angrily at her.
“I had to go to the store and I stopped off at the gas station. Joss and Nicky were asleep in the back seat. I saw Ariana come out of the store. She just came up to me telling me how much she missed you. She told me she supplied you with those pain pills for years! Why is she missing you, Nick? Huh? Were you two having sex? Did you fuck her back in college when you and I were hooking up? Huh?!” Joanna said punching Nick in his arm as he drove the car.
She continued to hit Nick hard while he tried to block her blows with one hand and the other hand on the wheel. Nick finally had to pull over on the side of the road so he wouldn’t crash.
He turned to her grabbing her arms to stop her from hitting him. “Are you fucking crazy! Jo, stop!”
Joanna continued to try and swing at him. Nick finally opened his car door and quickly hopped out of his car. He marched around the passenger side to where Joanna was sitting and opened her car door.
He yanked her out of his car and slammed her against the car. Joanna shrieked and was startled by his over powering move.
“STOP!” Nick shouted into her face as he held her arms down.
Joanna attempted to move her arms from his grip but was unsuccessful.
“What the hell is your problem! You could have killed us!”
“Answer me! Have you been fucking her?”
“I never fucked that bitch! Why does everybody think I have? And why do you care?! We are NOT together! Get that thru your fucking head! What I do with my life is my fucking business! Do you understand!”
“Fuck you, Nick! You lying piece of shit!” Joanna shouted and attempted to hit him again.
Cars were riding by honking their horn at the young couple fighting on the side of the road. If anyone was riding by, they would think that Nick was the one abusing Joanna, when in reality, Nick was trying to prevent Joanna from hitting him with her constant blows.
Apparently someone had already called the police. The police rolled up behind Nick’s car and quickly apprehended Nick into hand cuffs. The police looked at Joanna and saw blood coming from her lip and the many scratches on her face. What the police didn’t know was that in the mist of Joanna struggling with Nick, she accidentally bit her lip hard, drawing blood. The police saw blood on Nick’s shirt and immediately assumed the worst.
They threw Nick in the back seat of the patrol car ignoring his protests in trying to tell them what was really going on. Joanna was so upset, she said nothing as she glared at Nick realizing they were going to put Nick in jail.
“Ma’am, do you want to press charges?” the officer asked Joanna.
Joanna glared at Nick while he glared back at her thru window of the patrol car.
“Yes.” Joanna sneered.
The police officer then freely put her in the other patrol car and drove off to the police station, leaving Nick’s car on the side of the road in the dark.
