Chapter 13 (Saturday)
_ The next morning was Nick’s birthday. Cody woke up feeling
hungry and decided to go downstairs and fix himself some cereal. As he walked
downstairs, he saw Nick lying on the sofa in just his boxers and one of Josslyn’s
cozy blankets. Cody thought that was a little odd. It was the first time he had
seen Nick sleep outside of his bedroom. Cody then realized it was Nick’s
birthday and ran back upstairs to get the present he got for Nick with
Sabrina’s help the other day.
Cody grabbed his present and ran back down stairs and walked up to Nick. He nudged Nick’s bare shoulder.
“Hey…Nick…Hey…” Cody said as he nudged his shoulder a little harder to wake him.
Nick slowly woke up with a slight frown on his face. When he saw it was Cody standing next to him, Nick relaxed his brows.
“Hey, buddy.” Nick said in a very groggy, scratchy, and tired voice.
“Happy birthday.” Cody said with a smile as he handed Nick a small gift wrapped box.
Nick rubbed his face trying to wipe away his grogginess.
He then smiled lightly as he sat up. “So it is my birthday, huh…” Nick said rubbing his eyes.
Cody smiled and nodded his head saying, “Yep.”
Nick took the gift box from Cody. “You want me to open it now?” Nick asked with a smile.
“Yeah. Go ahead. Why not?” Cody smiled as he sat next to Nick on the sofa.
Nick began opening the gift.
“Remember when you took me and Jossy to the music studio with you and you guys were talking about your guitar and the thingy you played with?” Cody asked.
Nick slowly said yes as he finally opened the small box.
There inside the box was a customized silver guitar pick with a small diamond in the middle surrounded by the letters that read: MUSIC.
Nick’s eyes widened in shock. He quickly glanced at Cody and back at the guitar pick.
“You got this for me?” Nick asked as he took the pick out its box.
“Yeah! I picked it out and designed it and everything! Mom helped me pay a little on it, but it was mostly my money. The guy at the store even put a little hole in it, so if you want, you can like put it on your necklace chain and everything! You like it?” Cody said excitedly.
Nick looked over at Cody and wrapped his arm around Cody’s neck.
“Cody, I love it! Thanks buddy.” Nick said hugging him and then kissing the crown of his head. Cody smiled with satisfaction. “You’re welcome.”
“I love you…did you know that?” Nick asked still wrapping his arm and ruffling his fingers thru his hair.
Cody chuckled. “Yeah…I know.” Cody stood up and looked at Nick asking, “You want some breakfast? I was gonna fix me some cereal. I can fix you a bowl if you like?”
Nick laughed. “No, Im good. You go on and fix yourself some cereal.”
“Okay.” Cody said and rushed off toward the kitchen.
As soon as Cody ran into the kitchen, Nick heard him say, “Mom! Hey, g’morning! Guess what? Nick looooves the gift I got him!”
“He did! That’s awesome, baby.” He heard Sabrina say.
Nick became somber when he heard Sabrina’s voice. He wasn’t sure if she was still upset with him or not. He wondered if she would even speak to him. He was slightly upset with her for making him sleep on the sofa when he felt he did nothing wrong.
Nick hopped up and grabbed his clothes and the blanket he slept with. He walked upstairs putting Josslyn’s blanket back in her room. Josslyn was still sleep. He didn’t bother her, so he continued to walk back down the stairs. He walked past the kitchen and saw Sabrina and Cody talking, as she asked Cody to get the eggs out of the refrigerator for her. Nick continued to walk into the bedroom without saying anything to Sabrina. He proceeded to take a shower.
While Sabrina made breakfast, Cody was busy talking away about everything and keeping Sabrina company. He made her laugh talking about some of the silly things that happened over the week in school that he may have forgotten to tell her about.
Once she was almost done making breakfast, Cody asked, “When will aunt Kelly come visit us?”
“I don’t know, sweetie. Hopefully in the next 2 weeks. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.”
Cody crossed his fingers as he sat at the table.
At that moment Josslyn slowly made her way into the kitchen with her hair messy all over her head wearing her little pink pajamas. Sabrina couldn’t help but laugh at the sight. She looked so adorable.
“Good morning, Jossy.” Sabrina said pleasantly.
“Hi.” She said softly and sat at the table with Cody.
Cody looked at Josslyn saying, “Don’t forget to tell your dad ‘Happy Birthday’ today and give him your present.”
Josslyn eyes widened as if she had forgot. But she really didn’t. She just wanted to over exaggerate her excitement.
“Where’s my daddy?”
“I think he’s in the shower.” Cody responded.
“I gotta get my present.” Josslyn started to get down from her chair at the table.
Sabrina then said, “Hey, how about you both go upstairs, wash your faces, and brush your teeth. Cody help Josslyn, and then... you both hurry back down and come eat breakfast."
“Okay.” The kids both replied in unison and rushed out of the kitchen.
Sabrina began making everyone’s plate full of food. As she brought their plates to the table, Nick walked out of the bedroom wearing jeans and a white t-shirt. She could smell his fresh showered scent as he walked into the kitchen.
Cody grabbed his present and ran back down stairs and walked up to Nick. He nudged Nick’s bare shoulder.
“Hey…Nick…Hey…” Cody said as he nudged his shoulder a little harder to wake him.

_ “Morning.” Nick said as he walked to the refrigerator
keeping his eyes on her.
Sabrina didn’t make eye contact with him. She continued to move about in the kitchen. That was a cue for Nick to know she was going to ignore him and give him the silent treatment.
“Guys! Come on! Hurry before your food gets cold.” Sabrina shouted to Cody and Josslyn upstairs.
Nick took a deep breath out of annoyance with Sabrina. He was tired of her always giving him the silent treatment, especially when he felt he did nothing wrong. He didn’t bother to try and correct anything. He figured, if she didn’t want to talk to him, then fine…he wasn’t going to talk to her. Even if it was his birthday.
Nick sat at the table and began eating the breakfast she cooked. The kids ran into the kitchen and sat at the table.
“Happy birthday, daddy!!” Josslyn shouted loudly.
Nick chuckled and grabbed Josslyn placing her in his lap. “You think that was loud enough, baby girl?”
Josslyn laughed and handed Nick a folded piece of construction paper. It was her homemade birthday card she claimed she worked so hard on. The homemade card read: To The World’s Bestest Dad! – (inside the card read) Happy 29th Birthday!! I Love You! You Favorite Daughter, JOSSY!
“Cody helped me write it and Sabrina got the pink paper for me!” Josslyn smiled cutely.
“Thank you baby girl, it’s beautiful.” Nick smiled and gave her a big kiss on her cheek. “I love you.” Nick said and then helped her down from his lap allowing her to sit in her chair.
“I love you too, daddy!” she smiled and began eating her breakfast.
It was a slightly awkward breakfast as Nick and Sabrina remained silent listening to the kids do all of the talking. If they said anything, it was directed to the kids.
Cody then asked, “Are we going to the studio today?”
“Yeah, can we, can we, can we?” Josslyn chimed in.
“Sure.” Nick responded.
“Mom, are you going to come with us this time?” Cody asked happily as he munched on his bacon.
Nick stared at Sabrina waiting for her response.
Sabrina avoided his eyes as she kept her eyes on Cody and Josslyn. “Actually, I think I will join you guys today. Sounds like fun.” Sabrina smiled.
“Yes!” Cody exclaimed.
Nick didn’t respond. He looked back down at his plate of food and finished eating.
Once everyone was done eating, Sabrina began clearing the table while the kids ran back up stairs. Nick grabbed their empty glasses and placed them in the dishwasher. Sabrina watched Nick move about in the kitchen and finally spoke to him as she leaned against the island kitchen counter.
“Uhmm…I have some errands to do this morning. So if you could be around by 2pm, that would be great. I think that would be a great time for us to go over to the music studio….together.” Sabrina said flatly as she looked at him.
Once Nick was done placing the empty glasses into the dishwasher he stood up straight and looked at Sabrina. “Why at 2pm? What am I supposed to be doing until then?” Nick asked with a slight attitude.
“I don’t know, Nick. I don’t care. Go do whatever you did last night…I don’t care. All im saying is that it would be good if we just all go to the music studio at that time, as a family because that’s what the kids want.” Sabrina said frustrated and walked away from him towards the bedroom.
Nick clenched his jaw muscles as he angrily watched her walk away from him. He truly hated when she did that. Nick finally decided to follow her in the bedroom so he could finish getting dressed. Sabrina was getting something out of the closet for her to wear.
“Maybe we shouldn’t go anywhere if you’re going to have a fucked up attitude.” Nick said calmly yet with anger.
“I don’t have an attitude.” Sabrina said as she looked up at him placing a sarcastic smile on her face. “Im not going to argue with you today, Nick. Today is your day. All I ask, is that we just go to the studio today as a family. Can we just do that?”
Nick smacked his teeth and shook his head. “What-the-fuck-ever.” Nick mumbled angrily.

_ To Nick’s surprise, Sabrina had planned a surprise birthday party at
the music studio with all of his buddies. Liam was also there, however without
Miley.
Thru out the party, Nick would steal glances at Sabrina. He couldn’t help but notice how beautiful she was as she laughed and talked to his friends from the studio. It was obvious to Nick that Brandon helped Sabrina to plan the party at the studio.
Sabrina was a busy body being the hostess of the party as she constantly moved about making sure everyone was having a good time. Nick couldn't believe she actually put this together. He was truly shocked.
Nick continued to watch her move about while he talked to others at the party. He thought she was doing too much when she was pregnant and should be taking it easy. She continued to move about making sure Cody and Josslyn were okay as well.
When Nick saw her finally alone, he slowly walked up to her. “Hey…why don’t you take a break? Sit down and just enjoy the party.”
“Im fine.” Sabrina stated without looking at him.
“Hey…” Nick said raising her chin to look up at him. “Take a break.” Nick said softly in a husky voice.
Sabrina looked up into his brown eyes. The sincerity in his eyes actually made her melt inside. She missed those comforting eyes. She thought he looked so handsome. He wore the diamond earrings she bought for him, which sparkled in his ears, and she thought the powder blue sweater he wore looked amazing as it complimented his tanned skin.
“Okay.” Sabrina responded softly as she gazed up into his eyes.
“Daddy!! Come get more cake!” Josslyn said tugging on his sweater.
Nick slowly looked away from Sabrina and looked down at Josslyn. “More cake? Okay, let’s go get some more cake.” Nick said as he swooped her up into his arms.

_ As the party died down and people started to either leave or
go back to their respective studios and work. Brandon walked up to Nick giving
him a dap handshake.
“You good, my dude?” Brandon asked.
Nick nodded with a smile. “Hey, thanks for helping Brin do this. You know you didn’t have to.” “Nah…it was all your wife’s idea, man. I just did a little bit of this and a little bit of that. But it was all her. Dude, I don’t know how you got a good woman like that, but she really loves you, man.” Brandon said with his broad white smile.
Nick looked at Sabrina while she cleaned up a little while talking to his friend, Dollar. “Yeah…I guess she does.”
“Where can I find one? I mean…does she have to be latina, like Brin or what?” Brandon teased as he laughed.
Nick laughed and playfully pushed him. Once their laughing died down, Nick brought his eyes back to Sabrina. He admired her smile while she laughed with Dollar. “Naw, man…she’s one of a kind.” Brandon smiled as he saw the way Nick stared at her. “My boy is really in love. Look at you!” Brandon laughed.
Nick chuckled.
At that moment Liam walked up to the both of them.
“Yo, Im out, bro.” Liam said giving Nick a dap handshake.
“Thanks for coming, bro.” said Nick.
“No problem.” Liam said as he gave Brandon a dap handshake and shoulder to shoulder hug.
Josslyn rushed up to Liam wanting to give him a hug. “Bye Liam! Tell my auntie I said I will see her later!” Josslyn said as Liam picked her up in his arms.
“Yes ma’am.” Liam smiled at her.
“Hey man, what are you and Sabrina having? A boy or girl?” Brandon asked.
Nick looked at Sabrina in the distance as he responded with a grin. The sweater dress she wore nicely snugged her baby bump.
“We don’t know yet. She has a doctor’s appointment on Monday. We’ll find out then.”
“Nice. What do you want?” Brandon asked as he watched Josslyn run off after she spoke to Liam. “A boy. If it is, we already decided that he’ll be Nicholas Junior.”
“And if it’s not a boy?” Liam asked with a smile.
“I’ll leave the naming to Brin. I wouldn’t care. As long as he or she is healthy. But if it’s a boy, he’s definitely going to be a junior.” Nick smiled looking back at Sabrina as she instructed Cody to do something.
Liam chuckled. “Alright, Im gone fellas. See you guys later.” Liam said giving Nick another dap handshake.
As Liam left, someone in the room called out to Brandon.
“Hey yo, B! Someone took your keyboard again, or I just can’t find it.”
Brandon smacked his teeth as he looked at Nick.
Nick shrugged his shoulders.
“Either this dude is blind, or someone about to get their ass kicked for taking my keyboard. Somebody always got to be messing with me, mannnn. Don’t leave without letting me know, man.” Brandon finished giving Nick a dap handshake.
Nick laughed in agreement.
Nick looked back at Sabrina as she continued to clear off a table. He slowly walked up behind her and wrapped his arm around her giving her a hug and kissing her cheek.
“Nick…” Sabrina said with a light smile.
“I love you.” Nick said in her ear.
“I love you too.” Sabrina said touching his forearms as he hugged her.
“And, thank you.” Nick said turning her around to face him. Nick looked down at her small baby bump, and cradled her belly with his hands. “Are you feeling okay?” Nick grinned.
Sabrina nodded yes with a faint smile.
“Good. Is there anything else Im going to be surprised about today or is this it?”
“No…this is it.” Sabrina said as she looked up into his brown eyes.
“So…can we just go home and spend some time together? Maybe watch a movie and cuddle up together. Just us and the kids.” Nick asked as he grinned leaning into her gazing at her full lips. Sabrina leaned back a little. “Yeah…that’s fine. If that’s what you want to do.”
Nick wrapped his arms around her waist. “Yes…that’s what I want to do." He paused as he stared at her. He continued in almost a whisper, "Im sorry about last night.”
Sabrina only smiled as she looked up at him.
“Do you forgive me?” Nick asked her softly.
Sabrina silently took a deep breath. “We’ll talk later.”
“Still? You’re still upset with me?” Nick asked curiously.
“Nick…let’s just have a good day. Okay?”
Nick sighed as he stared into her honey brown eyes and pulled her closer into him. “Alright.” Nick said barely in a whisper.
He leaned down to kiss her lips. Their lips barely touched when Liam rushed back into the studio. “Hey Nick!”
Nick looked up to see Liam rushing in.
Liam waved for him to come toward his direction. Apparently it was something that he didn’t want Sabrina to hear. Nick looked back at Sabrina and lightly pinched her chin before leaving her side.
Nick walked up to Liam with a confused expression not sure what he wanted. “What’s up?” Nick asked with his eye brows furrowed.
“I don’t know if you really wanted to know or not, but Miley said that Joanna wanted you there.” Liam responded.
“What are you talking about?”
“Joanna’s in the hospital. Her water broke…they say she’s going into labor.”
“What? She’s not due for another month or so.”
“I know. Im going up there to see what’s going on. Miley wanted me to tell you. If she has the baby today…they may need you for medical reasons. You know…in case you’re the baby’s father.”
“You good, my dude?” Brandon asked.

Chapter 14
Gainesville Hospital
_ Sabrina sat in the hospital’s waiting room with Cody sitting
on one side of her and Josslyn sitting on the other side of her. She couldn’t
believe she was sitting there while Nick was checking on Joanna. She thought
about the words Nick told her prior to them coming there.
“Baby, this proves how much this baby is not mine. There’s no way she can be having this baby now. It’s too early. I knew this baby wasn’t mine. I knew it!” Nick said excitedly.
Now, Sabrina was sitting there waiting to see if the baby was actually going to be born or not. Sabrina thought about it more, and felt that it was a possibility that Joanna was having the baby prematurely. She believed Nick wasn’t the father of Joanna's baby. There was no doubt in her mind. But she slowly started to feel differently when she saw how happy and relieved Nick was on the fact that the timing for Joanna to have this baby now was no way possible he could be the father. He was almost too relieved as if he had doubts before.
“Mom…when are we going home?” Cody asked looking bored out of his mind.
“Soon, I hope, sweetie.” Sabrina said rubbing his back.
“I want more cake.” Josslyn said with a frown on her face.
“Well, we’ll see when we get home okay, hun?”
“Nooooo…I want some now!” Josslyn shouted.
Sabrina held her head down bringing her hand up to her forehead. Just the sound of Josslyn’s whining was forcing her to have a headache. Sabrina slowly began massaging her forehead.
“Josslyn, sweetie…please sit down.”
“NO!” Josslyn shrieked.
Sabrina realized that since she had moved there in Gainesville, this was the first time she was alone with Josslyn.
“Shut-up.” Cody demanded to Josslyn as he frowned at her.
“NO! I want my daddy!!” Josslyn yelled.
“Cody, stop…don’t talk to her like that. Joss, come here, come sit with me, please.” Sabrina pleaded with Josslyn starting to feel embarrassed as people in the waiting room stared at her.
Josslyn began to whine loudly and just started screaming. Sabrina reached out for her, but Josslyn snatched away and started to make a run for it. Sabrina quickly hopped up and grabbed Josslyn’s arm. Josslyn cried out loudly in a curdling scream. She tried to fight her way out of Sabrina’s grasp while Sabrina tried to comfort her.
A woman entered into the waiting room and called out Josslyn’s name.
“Jossy!” the woman said and rushed up to Sabrina and Josslyn.
Josslyn turned her head and saw a familiar face and immediately stopped crying and reached out for the woman. “Grandma!”
Sabrina let Josslyn go as she watched her run up to the woman. Sabrina had never seen the woman before, but it was apparent that Josslyn knew her well and allowed the woman to pick her up while she rested her head against the woman’s shoulder. The woman frowned at Sabrina.
“Excuse me, but what on earth are you doing to my grandchild?”
Sabrina took a deep breath and ran her fingers thru her long hair feeling so embarrassed and awkward. She figured this woman must be Joanna’s mother. The only other grandma possibly known to Josslyn.
“I…I uhm…was only trying to comfort her.” Sabrina sighed and thought it would be best if she just introduced herself to the woman. “Hi…Im Sabrina. Nick’s….wife.” Sabrina said extending her hand out to the woman to greet her.
The woman continued to frown at her as she looked at Sabrina up and down. Her eyes stopped at Sabrina’s small baby bump protruding thru her short black, white and gray striped long sleeves sweater dress. The woman stared at Sabrina’s hand not intending to shake her hand.
“So I assume you know where I can find my daughter…?”
Sabrina slowly drew her hand back realizing the woman wasn’t going to shake her hand.
“Actually…I don’t. Sorry.” Sabrina stated.
“Grandma, I want my daddy and mommy.” Josslyn whined.
“Okay honey bunny, we’ll go check it out…let’s go find them.” The woman stated and walked away with Josslyn in her arms.
Cody walked up to Sabrina and wrapped his arm around Sabrina’s waist and looked up at her asking, “Ma, who is that?”
Sabrina wrapped her arm around Cody responding, “Josslyn’s grandmother.”
“I thought her grandmother was that other lady?” Cody asked as Sabrina escorted him back to their seats in the waiting room.
Sabrina sighed feeling frustrated. She just wanted to cry, but she held in her emotions.
“Well….you know Joss’s mother, Joanna? Well, that’s Joanna’s mother. So that makes her Josslyn’s grandmother too. Just like Nick’s mom, Sandra.”
“So…does Josh have a mom too? Does that mean I do have a grandmother?” Cody asked curiously thinking of his biological father, Josh.
“Yep, that’s right.”
“How come I never met her?” Cody asked leaning on Sabrina as they sat down.
“Well, honey…that’s just something you will have to ask Josh, your dad, the next time you see him.” “You mean, next weekend?”
Sabrina nodded her head yes, as she looked around the waiting room trying to bat her eyelashes quickly to keep her tears from forming in her eyes.
Several minutes later, Nick came into the waiting room and took a seat next to Sabrina. Sabrina looked at him waiting to hear some news.
“Are you okay?” Nick asked her with concern.
“Yeah…did she have the baby?”
“No. Not yet. But it could be at any time. The doctors are trying to prevent her from having the baby as long as they can. She’s bed bound until she does.” Nick paused and looked at Cody. He then looked back at Sabrina. “Did Melissa say anything rude to you?” Nick asked.
“Who is Melissa?” Sabrina asked.
“Joanna’s mother. I saw her with Joss.”
“Oh…no. It doesn’t matter anyway. So, can we leave now?”
“Uhm…well…” Nick hesitated. He then looked at Cody saying, “Cody, me and your mom are going to go right over there and talk for a second, okay? Stay right here.”
“Okay.” Cody responded sitting back in his chair.
Nick grabbed Sabrina’s hand and escorted her to the other side of the waiting room where no one was sitting. He spoke quietly to her. “I want you and Cody to go ahead and go home. I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to be here.”
Sabrina folded her arms in front of her chest and shifted her weight as she stared up at Nick.
“And where are you going to be?” Sabrina asked with a slight attitude.
“Im going to stay here. Just in case—“
“Just in case what, Nick?”
“You just never know what might happen.”
“But it’s not your child, Nick. I don’t understand why you have to stay.” Sabrina frowned at him. “Baby…I know. You don’t understand…I need to be here just in case something happens. Like, if she has the baby tonight, I can be here and get all the paternity tests done and everything.”
“But you just said the doctors are trying to prevent her from having the baby, so—“
“Brin…please? You need to be home resting anyway. It’s been a long day.”
Sabrina continued to frown at him as the anger she already had subsided for him because it was his birthday, began to rise again. She literally wanted to punch him in the face.
“I know, you’re pissed. I see it in your eyes. I will make it up to you, I promise.” Nick said softly putting his car keys into her hand.
He then hugged her. Sabrina kept her hands down to her side not hugging him back.
Nick kissed her cheek as he pulled away from the hug.
“I love you.” Nick said hoping that would smooth things over with her.
Sabrina pushed him to the side so she could walk back towards Cody. She grabbed her purse and said to Cody, “C’mon Cody. We’re going home.”
Sabrina didn’t bother to look back at Nick.
“What about Nick and Joss?” Cody asked as he quickly hopped up to keep up with his mother.
Nick rubbed the back of his neck as he watched Sabrina leave. He knew she was highly pissed off at him. He was sure he’d be spending another night on the sofa that night.
Nick made his way back into Joanna’s room where her mother,
Melissa, her sister, Miley, and Liam, who was holding Josslyn, were all in her
room.
“Did you send her home?” Melissa asked with her hands on her hips speaking of Sabrina.
“Yes, ma’am.” Nick said and began clenching his jaw muscles as he walked further into the room. “Good. I don’t know why you brought her here in the first place. That was so disrespectful.” Melissa said looking back down at Joanna who was resting on the hospital bed.
“Can we not talk about it anymore, I would appreciate it.” Nick said firmly.
“Im just saying, Nick. My daughter probably wouldn’t be lying in this bed right now if you had been helping her to not fall down at your apartment a month or so ago. I knew everything was not going to be alright. If she hadn’t fallen, she and the baby would be perfectly normal.”
“Momma, Im fine.” Joanna said in a weak voice.
“No…if you were fine, you wouldn’t be here. If Nick was assisting you, you wouldn’t have fell and the baby wouldn’t be trying to come so early. I pray to God this baby will not have any premature issues.” She paused and took a deep breath. “Nick, you better pray too, I swear to God.”
Nick remained silent as he continued to clench his jaw muscles.
“Damn, momma…maybe you should take a chill pill.” Miley said to her mother.
“No, I wont. I shouldn’t be at work, and get a phone call saying that my daughter may be in labor when she is only 33 weeks pregnant. That’s not right!” Melissa, Joanna’s mother, then looked at Liam and continued, “Let me tell you something young man. If you get my other daughter pregnant, you better not turn into this young man…” she said pointing to Nick. She then continued, “If you get Miley pregnant, you better marry her and not some other whore. I will not stand for this to happen to both of my children. Do you understand me?”
“Wait a second, Melissa, Im not going to have you calling my wife a whore, when she’s not.” Nick said angrily.
Liam handed over Josslyn to Miley, realizing Nick was getting really angry, and he may start saying unnecessary things he would regret later.
“Well, I can’t tell from what I heard about her.” Melissa said with a smug on her face.
“What?! Are you fuc –“
“Okay…let’s go outside.” Liam interrupted Nick.
“No, Im fine. I just want to talk to her…” Nick protested as Liam pushed Nick out of the room.
“Liam take him out.” Miley demanded. She then looked at her mother, “Momma, I can’t believe you said that.”
“Momma…please stop.” Joanna said in a low groan feeling pain.
Meanwhile outside of Joanna’s hospital room, Liam was trying to calm Nick down. Nick was trying to go back in the room, while Liam continued to push Nick away.
“Get off of me, bro…I just want to talk to her..” Nick protested.
“Take a walk, Nick. Go take a walk, man.” Liam said pushing Nick back.
Nick finally stopped when he noticed the nurses looking at them.
“C’mon…Let’s take a walk.” Liam said calmly as he placed his hand on Nick’s shoulder.
The two friends ended up outside the hospital sitting on the sidewalk curb. Nick placed his elbows on his knees and held his head down in deep thoughts. Liam sat next to him allowing Nick to let off some steam in silence. Nick finally looked up once he had calmed and said a curse. Liam looked over at Nick.
“You know they are just trying to make you feel bad, right? At least her mom doesn’t know the truth, right?”
Nick looked at Liam with a frown on his face. He shook his head. “She might as well.”
“Yeah, but just think, if she knew you pushed Jo instead of Jo just accidentally missing a step... Man…Melissa probably would have pressed charges against you.” Liam said shaking his head at the thought.
Nick sighed. “I just hope she doesn’t have the baby tonight.”
“Well…” Liam said in deep thoughts. “…if she does…at least you will know tonight whether or not you’re the father.”
Nick said another curse out of frustration.
“You want me to take you home?” Liam asked.
“I can’t go home right now. I would never hear the end of it from Jo, and Melissa for the rest of my life. Besides…Im not ready to face Brin right now.” Nick said as he lowered his head back down. “You gotta face her at some point, bro.” Liam said with concern.
“Yeah…but not right now…I can’t.”
Liam stood up dusting off the dirt from the curb off of his black jeans.
“Well…you ready to head back up?”
Nick sighed once again. Liam held his hand out to help Nick up from the ground. Nick took his hand using Liam to easily boost himself up. Once Nick was up, Liam patted him hard on the back.
“Don’t lose your temper in there. Just filter out everything Melissa or Jo says and don’t say shit.” Liam advised.
Nick kept his head down as he walked with his best friend back inside the hospital.

-----------------------
_ After a few more hours at the hospital, Nick had Liam to
take him home along with Josslyn. The doctors made it clear that Joanna was not
going to have the baby any time soon that night. Joanna was going to remain in the
hospital with the hopes of keeping the baby inside her womb.
It was 2am when Liam pulled up into Nick’s driveway.
“Thanks, man.” Nick said in a low tone.
“No problem. What a birthday, huh?” Liam teased him.
“Yeah…that’s for sure. I don’t think it ends yet.” Nick chuckled.
“So, you want me to call you if or whenever she has the baby?” Liam asked.
Nick sighed. “I’d tell you to call my cell phone, but hell…I don’t even know where it is. But yeah…the quicker she has the baby, the quicker we’ll know it’s not mine.”
“You hope.”
Nick didn’t respond. He opened the car door and gave Liam a dap hand shake.
“Thanks again. If she doesn’t have the baby tomorrow…or should I say today, I will be by on Monday before I go to work.” Nick hopped out of the car and gently grabbed the sleeping Josslyn out from the back seat.
“I thought you said Sabrina had a doctor’s appointment on Monday?” Liam asked before Nick walked on.
“Yeah…she does. It’s early in the morning so she can get to work on time. So, I’ll go with her to that and then I will stop by to see Jo.”
“Alright, bro. See ya.”
Nick nodded to Liam as he walked toward the house with Josslyn’ limp sleeping body hanging on his shoulder.
Nick walked into the dark, silent house. He quietly walked upstairs to Josslyn’s room and put on her pajamas. Nick checked on Cody and saw that he was in a deep sleep as he lightly snored. Nick closed up his door and walked down stairs.
His bedroom door was closed. He slowly reached for the door knob wondering if it was going to be locked or not. To his surprise, the door was unlocked. Nick walked inside and saw Sabrina sound asleep in bed.
Nick took off his clothes and took a shower. When he was done, he climbed out of the shower dried himself off and threw on his black boxers. Nick walked up toward the medicine cabinet looking for his pain pills. However, he was shocked to see his pills weren’t where he always put them. Nick frowned and started to look frantically for them. He knew he had some left.
Nick walked out of the bathroom and looked in his dresser. As he searched each drawer, he slammed the drawers loudly, out of frustration for not being able to find his pills.
The loud slamming noise woke Sabrina up. She slowly opened her eyes and sat up to see Nick frantically looking for something. Sabrina flipped her hair to the side to look at the time. It was as if he had just come home from work, yet, he didn’t work that day. She last left him at the hospital with Joanna. Did he spend all of this time with her? Sabrina frowned at the thought.
She then angrily looked at him and asked, “Nick what the hell are you doing?”
Nick didn’t respond. Instead he continued to search for his pills in his drawer. When he reached one drawer and lifted a few clothing pieces, he saw his cell phone. The screen was cracked and a the back piece was completly broken. He picked it up and closely examined it with a frown. He knew he didn’t put his phone in his drawer. He knew the last time he saw his phone, the touch screen of his phone was not cracked. Nick held it up for Sabrina to see his broken phone.
Sabrina had completely forgotten about how she threw his phone across the room and how it hit the wall shattering in pieces. She had forgot that she just stuffed his phone in his drawer wanting to confront him about it at a later time.
“What the hell?” Nick asked her as he held his phone up.
“What?” Sabrina stated rather than in a question noticing how upset he looked.
“My phone. I was looking for this earlier. I thought maybe I left it at my mom’s house.” “Well…apparently you didn’t.” Sabrina said with an attitude.
“Who the fuck broke it? Did one of the kids break it?” Nick asked angrily.
“No.” Sabrina stated calmly.
Nick just stared at her. Sabrina stared back at him as if challenging him. Nick turned the bedroom light on to closely examine his phone. Sabrina squinted her eyes from the sudden bright light in the room. Thats when Sabrina saw how he had threw his clothes out of his drawers making a mess on the bedroom floor.
“Are you going to clean up the mess you just made?” Sabrina asked Nick while he examined his phone.
“So, if the kids didn’t break it, who the fuck did?” Nick asked angrily still looking at his phone.
Sabrina smacked her teeth and climbed out of bed wearing her thin cami tank top and black laced trim boyshort underwear.
“Don’t come in here acting crazy, Nick.” Sabrina said as she picked up his clothes from the floor. “Sabrina…did you break my phone and try to hide it from me?” Nick asked in disbelief.
Sabrina stopped and looked at him.
“I don’t know, maybe I wanted to know what it felt like to hide something from you once in a while, asshole!” Sabrina shouted at him as she threw the pile of clothes she picked up and threw it at him.
“What, Brin? Just fucking talk to me! You don’t have to fucking break my fucking phone! Damn!” “You didn’t have to be with Joanna until fucking 2 in the morning!”
“So, what is this, like a tit for tat kind of shit?” Nick frowned at her still angry about his phone.
“Did she have the baby or not?”
“No.” Nick said standing up picking up the clothes Sabrina had threw at him.
“No? So what the hell were you doing there so long?”
“We were waiting for the doctor.” Nick said now lowering his voice and speaking calmly. Yet he was still upset.
“For what?!” Sabrina shouted at him angrily.
Nick didn’t respond. He continued to pick up the other clothes from the floor.
Sabrina pushed Nick. “Why, Nick? That’s not your baby, right? Why do you have to be there?”
Nick still didn’t respond. He dumped some of his clothes back into his drawer.
Sabrina pushed Nick again because he wouldn’t answer her.
“It’s not your baby, right? Huh, Nick? Answer me, dammit!” Sabrina yelled at him and pushed him again briefly knocking him off of his balance.
“NO!” Nick shouted back at her making her jump.
“Then why, Nick? Why are you just now coming home? Where have you been?”
“I was at the fucking hospital, damn! I was trying to make sure if she was going to have the baby or not. The quicker she has it, the quicker I will know that the baby is not mine. Alright? Damn! Get off my back about that shit.” Nick said loudly in frustration.
He then continued to pick up the rest of his clothes off of the floor placing them back in his drawer. Sabrina narrowed her eyes at him as she watched him move about.
“Get off your back?” Sabrina said softly in disbelief. “Really, Nick? After all the fucking text messages and phone calls you both make to each other, you just want me to get off your back? After how that bitch told me about how you go over to her house and how much she’s fucking you, you want me to get off your back? .... Fuck you, Nick.” Sabrina said on the verge of tears.
Nick turned around to face her with a frown. “Im not fucking her, Brin! How many times do I have to tell you that?”
“Your text messages say differently!” Sabrina yelled at him.
“So now you’re snooping thru my phone? You don’t trust me?” Nick asked in disbelief.
“I shouldn’t have to snoop around if you just tell me what you’re doing, Nick!”
“Im NOT doing anything!!” Nick shouted at her into her face making her jump at the sound of his deep thunderous voice.
“Stop! Don’t yell at me like that!” Sabrina said shoving his chest to move him away from her.
Nick backed away from her and walked in his closet grabbing his jeans and putting them on. “What are you doing?” Sabrina asked as she watched him get dressed.
Nick didn’t respond. He continued to get dressed as he grabbed a t-shirt and threw it on over his head.
Sabrina watched him grab his shoes about to put them on.
“Where are you going?” Sabrina asked angrily.
Nick still didn’t respond.
Once he put his shoes on, he hopped up and scanned the room for his car keys. Sabrina knew he was looking for the car keys. She knew where she laid them and rushed over toward the night stand by the bed and snatched up his keys into her hand. She hid her hands behind her back not allowing Nick to get them.
Nick heard her grab the keys into her hands. He walked up to her holding his hand out.
“Brin, give me the keys.” Nick said coldly.
“No.” Sabrina said calmly still holding her hands behind her back.
“Brin, stop playing and just give me the damn keys.” Nick said firmly as he frowned at her.
“No.” Sabrina said backing into the wall. She continued. “You can’t just leave whenever the hell you want to. You can’t walk away from me, when you don’t want me to walk away from you!”
“Im not sticking around here and have you keep accusing me for shit I don’t do. Now give me the keys.” Nick said walking closer to her.
“Why can’t you just stay here and talk to me? What are you hiding? Is this not in your stupid plans to keep me here?”
“What?” Nick looked at her like she were crazy.
“I know you’ve been lying to me, Nick. It’s just one lie after another. It started back when I first saw you at our class reunion. Joanna told me the reason you even walked in late at the welcome dinner was because you two were having sex! You’ve always been having sex with her! You never stopped! You’re probably having or had sex with every fucking female at Links Advertisement! Why don’t you just stop lying to me and tell me the truth!”
“You don’t have any idea what you’re talking about.” Nick said angrily thru his teeth.
“I know you’re a liar! Why, Nick? All lies to force me to move here? Just up root my life for you?!” Sabrina said angrily looking up at him.
“You don’t want to be here, then fine…LEAVE! It’s not like Im holding a fucking gun to your head!” Nick said angrily. “Give me the fucking keys!” Nick said grabbing her arm trying to pry the keys away from her hands.
“Nick, stop!” Sabrina felt him roughly grab her arm hurting her.
The young couple scuffled as he tried to snatch the keys away from her. Nick finally snatched the keys away from her grip and Sabrina immediately began punching him out of anger for hurting her and then telling her to leave like he didn’t care.
“Brin, stop!” Nick shoved her hard against the wall to stop her from hitting him.
When Sabrina hit the wall, she winced in pain softly saying, “Ouch.”
Nick angrily walked away from her, roughly snatching their bedroom door open.
Sabrina began to cry. “Where are you going?!” Sabrina shouted after him.
Nick didn’t respond. He continued to walk out and slammed the back door shut when he left. Sabrina slid down the wall and continued to cry.
------------------
It was 2am when Liam pulled up into Nick’s driveway.

------------------
_ As Sabrina continued to cry, she thought about how mean and
angry Nick was with her. She had never seen him so angry before. Did he really
not want her there? Was he going back to Joanna at the hospital?
Sabrina was so miserable. Right at that moment, she just wanted to pack her and Cody’s things and leave. Go back to Atlanta where she was happy amongst her family and friends.
Sabrina stood up and walked toward the closet and got out her suitcase. She began stuffing her clothes and her personal items inside the bag. She put on her jeans, and threw on a fitted gray jacket over her cami tank top and zipped it up. She then quickly put on her socks and sneakers and went about packing up more of her clothes. She wanted to hurry and leave before Nick came back.
Sabrina carried her now heavy suitcase into the kitchen sitting it near the back door. She was going to get her car keys, load her suitcase into the car and then go upstairs to wake Cody and pack his things as well. Sabrina walked to the key holder they kept on the wall near the kitchen entrance to grab her keys. To her surprise, they weren’t there. As Sabrina tied her hair up into a ponytail, she scanned the room for her car keys. No luck.
She quickly walked into the bedroom and searched for her car keys. She looked thru her purse and still no keys. She rushed into the living room looking for her keys. She flipped over the sofa cushions and bent down to the floor looking for the keys under the sofa and chairs and still no keys.
She walked out into the chilly night toward her car to peek inside for her keys. Maybe they were locked inside by mistake and she never knew it. Her car doors were locked and there was still no keys.
Sabrina became angry. She thought about Nick. Did he take her car keys? Sabrina said a curse as she placed her hands on her hips.
Sabrina became frustrated and tears welled back up in her eyes. It’s not like she can call anyone to come pick her up. Her aunt Kelly and Raven were five hours away. She thought about how Nick just snatched her away from everyone she knew and loved to put her here in a place where everyone hated her because of him. Sabrina pounded her fist on the counter in anger as she continued to sob. Sabrina then thought about the only person she knew would help her. She grabbed her cell phone and dialed a number.
“Yeah…?” said a very groggy and tired voice.
“Kevin?” Sabrina asked into the phone.
There was a short pause.
“Yeah…who is this?” he responded with a sigh trying to wake up.
“It’s me…Sabrina. Sabrina Lancaster from Links Advertisement.” Sabrina responded as her voice trembled from crying.
There was another pause. He then answered in a more alert tone. “Sabrina? Hey…are you okay?” “I need you, Kevin. I really need your help.” Sabrina sobbed into the phone.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay? Where are you?” Kevin asked now very alert.
“Im fine…it’s just…my husband and I just got into a really huge fight. I don’t want to be here…I just want to leave.” Sabrina’s voice continued to tremble into the phone.
“Did he hit you?” Kevin asked with concern.
Sabrina took a deep breath trying to control her emotions. “No. I just don’t want to be here anymore, and he took my car keys. Can you please just come get me and my son? Please, Kevin?”
“Yeah, sure! Where is he now?”
“I don’t know…”
“Okay…okay…just give me your address.”
Sabrina proceeded to give Kevin her address.
“Okay…you know Im in Orlando…it’s going to take me a while to get there.”
Sabrina sniffed. “I don’t care. Just please hurry. Please?”
“Hey…no need to beg, alright? Im on my way!” Kevin responded and ended the call.
Sabrina wiped her tear stained face. She didn’t know what she would do without Kevin. Sabrina then walked upstairs to get Cody and his things together.
As soon as Sabrina reached the top of the stairs, she thought about Josslyn. She closed her eyelids and realized she was about to leave Josslyn in the house alone, considering she had no clue when Nick was going to come back.
Sabrina walked toward Josslyn’s room and sure enough she was in her bed fast asleep. Sabrina closed Josslyn’s bedroom door shut and took a deep breath. Once again…she was stuck. There was no way she could take Josslyn with her when she wasn’t even her child. Sabrina leaned against the wall whispered a curse in frustration. She took a deep breath and held up her cell phone dialing Kevin’s number back.
“Im in the car now, heading your way.” Kevin answered when he picked up the phone.
“Thanks Kevin…but you can turn back around and go home.” Sabrina said with disappointment. “Why? What happened?”
Sabrina took another deep breath. “I forgot his little girl is here too. I can’t just leave her when I don’t know when my husband is coming back.”
“Well…I mean…Sabrina, are you sure? I don’t have a problem in coming to get you. I don’t want you to be afraid for your life.”
Sabrina laughed lightly in frustration. “No…it’s okay, Kevin. Really. I didn’t mean to give you a scare at nearly 4 in the morning. Im so sorry. I promise to make this up to you. I’ll do anything…just please…forgive me and forget this phone call ever happened.”
There was silence at the other end of the phone.
“Do you want me to come over just to make sure everything is okay when he does come home?” Sabrina smiled at his generosity. “No…Im fine. I swear. Thank you so much, Kevin. I really…really appreciate you.”
“Anything for you. Don’t be afraid to pick up your phone and call me if anything happens.” Kevin reassured her.
Sabrina smiled. “Thanks, Kevin.”
Sabrina then ended the call.
She rested her head back against the wall feeling helpless. She took a deep breath and quietly walked into Cody’s room. He was sleeping peacefully. Sabrina quietly crawled into his bed and snuggled against him and kissed his forehead.
Cody half woke up and saw Sabrina in bed with him. “Mom…?” Cody said giving her a confused expression.
“Shhh…go back to sleep, sweetie.” Sabrina whispered to him.
Cody moved closer to Sabrina wrapping his arm around her waist and nuzzled his head into her chest.
Sabrina allowed more tears to fall down her cheek as she pulled him close into her. Sabrina ended up crying herself to sleep.

-------------------
_ It wasn’t until 5:30am when Nick came back home. When he
opened the door he saw Sabrina’s suitcase sitting at the door and the kitchen
light was on. He sighed feeling depressed. He locked the door behind him and
picked up Sabrina’s suitcase as he looked around the house for her.
“Sabrina?” He called out to her calmly yet not too loud.
He walked into their bedroom with her bag in his hand. She wasn’t in bed, or in the bathroom. Nick put his car keys on the dresser along with her car keys. He wondered where she was since her bag was still here.
Nick rushed upstairs and walked toward Cody’s room. The only way to tell if she was truly gone was to see if Cody was gone. Nick slowly walked up to Cody’s bedroom door and saw Sabrina holding Cody as they both lay in his bed sound asleep.
Nick sighed a relief.
He stared at them for a moment. Sabrina was fully clothed. It was obvious she was going to leave. But something made her stop. Nick figured maybe it was a good idea that he did swipe her car keys to prevent her from leaving.
Nick checked on Josslyn and she was sound asleep as well. Nick calmly walked back downstairs and to his bedroom.
He placed Sabrina’s bag onto the bed and unzipped it. He saw how she had packed some of her clothes and all of her personal items. Nick took another deep breath. He slowly began unpacking her bag and replacing all of the things she had packed, back to its original place. When Nick was done, he zipped her now empty bag and replaced it back into their walk-in closet.
Nick tiredly took his tshirt and jeans off and climbed into their king size bed. He felt like he had been up for over 24 hours. Yet he hoped to be able to get up whenever Sabrina got up just in case she tried to leave again without him having to talk to her.
Nick laid his head down on the pillow in deep thoughts as he heard the early birds begin chirping as the sun prepared to rise.
Nick took another deep breath and closed his eyes and fell asleep.
