Chapter 11 - Six Weeks Later (Friday)
_ It was a busy day at work for Sabrina. In about 5 minutes
she was going to be having a conference meeting with her boss, Heather and some
other art designers about a special project they had been working on since
Sabrina started working there. As she gathered all the things together for the
meeting her cell phone buzzed on her desk indicating she had a text message.
She picked up her phone and saw a text message from Nick.
|| Hey my beautiful wife. Its ur b-day hubby :) Its been a long time…poss smush @ sum point? Pllleeaasseee? ||
Sabrina couldn’t help but laugh. She quickly picked up her phone and dialed his number.
Nick picked answered saying, “Are you calling to tell me yes? If so, can I hear you moan it out loud?” Nick chuckled.
Sabrina laughed out loud. “Oh my God, you are such a perv.”
Nick laughed.
“Are you sure you want to do that with a fat pregnant woman?” Sabrina smiled.
“Fat? Are you kidding me? We can work around that little 'beer belly' you have. Trust me, there are many different positions we can do to get around that.” Nick laughed.
Sabrina giggled.
Nick continued briefly changing the subject, “How’s your day going?”
“Busy…as usual. Don’t forget to pick up Cody from school today.”
“Im on my way now. And then I have to go get Joss.”
“Okay. What have you been doing all day?” Sabrina asked since this was the weekend he was off.
“Thinking of you.” Nick said flirtatiously.
“Ha…good answer. Just for that…I might have to do a little something extra for your birthday present.”
Nick smiled. “Just let me hear you moan or something.”
Sabrina giggled, “Nick…no, Im at work.”
“Ah-ha! So if you weren’t at work that means you would…and that means, yes…at some point this weekend we can smush.”
“You have been watching too much Jersey Shore today on t.v. haven’t you?”
Nick laughed. “Maybe.”
Sabrina smiled and looked out her office as she sat in her chair at her desk. She wanted to make sure no one was around, even though no one would be able to really hear her conversation except Ariana since she was so close. Sabrina suddenly moaned into the phone saying, “Yes.”
There was silence on the other end.
Then Nick finally chuckled saying, “Damn I miss that. As soon as you get home, we’re putting the kids to bed.”
Sabrina laughed. “Babe, I have to go. I’ll talk to you later.”
“Alright, I love you.”
“I love you too.” Sabrina smiled as she ended the call.
About an hour later, Sabrina had just got off the phone with her boss, Heather, from the conference meeting. Heather had informed her that with the project they were working on, she was going to have to keep in contact with Zoe. The same woman who clearly hated Sabrina. Sabrina still had no idea why Zoe did not like her. Now, it was time for her to get Zoe to push whatever differences they had to the side and get together on this project.
Sabrina took a deep breath and carried some forms in her hand over toward Zoe’s cubicle office. Sabrina lightly knocked on Zoe’s cubicle wall.
“Knock, knock.” Sabrina said lightly hating to disturb Zoe.
Zoe turned away from her computer with a pleasant expression to see who was entering into her cubicle office.

Zoe turned away from her computer with a pleasant expression to see who was entering into her cubicle office.
Zoe
_
When she saw it was Sabrina she immediately dropped her
pleasant expression and exchanged it for an annoyed frustrated look. She rolled
her eyes and turned back around to her computer saying, “What do you want?”
“Hi…Zoe. Do you have a second?” Sabrina asked trying to remain professional.
Zoe sighed loudly and turned back around to face Sabrina. “I suppose. What?”
Sabrina saw an empty chair beside her desk and sat in it. She handed her the forms she was holding and explained what she needed from her in order to work on the project.
Sabrina finished saying, “So…if you can get that done for me…I would greatly appreciate it.”
“Im not making any promises…but I will see what I can do.” Zoe responded with an attitude. “Thanks.” Sabrina said flatly.
Before leaving, Sabrina had to know what her problem was since the first day she had started working there. She never found out what the problem was that Zoe had with her, and now was the time…especially if they were going to be working together a little more.
“Zoe…since we are going to be working together more often…I was hoping that whatever issues you have with me can be pushed to the side. Because, Im still not aware of what it is that I may have done to you.” Sabrina started.
Zoe paused and stared at Sabrina with a smirk. She laughed sarcastically. “Really? You have no clue do you?”
“No … I don’t.”
Zoe snickered lightly. “The only reason why they hired you…over me…is because of your husband Nick. Trust me…if they knew you were pregnant, they would not have hired you…over me.”
Sabrina thought for a moment as she stared blankly at Zoe.
Sabrina finally said slightly in shock, “That’s not true. I got this job on my own.”
Zoe laughed sarcastically. “No, you didn't, sweetie. That’s a given fact. I mean…put two and two together Sabrina. Heather’s mother is your husband’s boss, right? Well rumor has it, that your husband’s father, has been sleeping with Heather’s mother. So obviously, his father helped him in getting that promotion. And look what else the Lancaster men were able to do? Get his pregnant girlfr—oh im sorry…pregnant wife a job here at this company. Go figure.” Zoe finished as she rolled her eyes. “You and I both know, you can’t handle this job. They are expecting a lot from you…and with you being pregnant…honey, you don’t have a chance. But I guess they will keep you along as long as your husband’s father is fucking the boss’s mother. So, if you want me to do these little forms for you…I guess I can. Since I don’t want to jeopardize my job. But don’t think for once I will bend over backwards for you.” Zoe said as she narrowed her eyes at Sabrina feeling so much hate towards her.
Zoe then looked at her computer and continued working. Sabrina sat there in shock. She was speechless. Before she could even say anything else, Zoe turned and glared at her.
“You can leave now.”
Sabrina gave Zoe one final stare and quietly walked out of her cubicle office.
Sabrina walked back toward her office with a frown on her face as she thought about what Zoe just told her. She sat down at her desk and stared off into the distance in deep thoughts. Nick planned this whole thing? She wondered. Sabrina started to call Nick, but she stopped when she realized she needed to focus on her work before leaving the office. She tried to focus on her work for the next two minutes but her mind drifted off to Zoe and her harsh words. Sabrina snapped out of her thoughts when Ariana knocked on her door with a smile on her face.
“Hi. Can I come in?” Ariana asked Sabrina.
Sabrina forced a smile on her face and waved for her to come in.
Ariana walked in with a smile on her face holding a few manila folders in her hand. “Here are the reports you were looking for earlier.” Ariana said as she handed Sabrina one folder.
“Oh, thanks.” Sabrina said flatly with a faint smile.
“You’re welcome.” Ariana said staring at Sabrina.
She watched Sabrina look over a few pages when she finally cleared her throat and spoke. “Uhm…you know, Zoe can be that way sometimes.”
Sabrina slowly looked up at Ariana. “Excuse me?”
Ariana nervously laughed.
Zoe sighed loudly and turned back around to face Sabrina. “I suppose. What?”

Ariana
_
“Oh..sorry. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but I kind of heard
the things she was saying. I don’t think your husband Nick would have done any
of that stuff. I mean…Im sure you got this job on your own. You’re a smart woman.
Nick’s a really good guy…so Im sure he had nothing to do with that.” Ariana stated.
Sabrina faintly smiled at Ariana not sure how to respond to her.
“Im sure Nick told you how I know him, right?” Ariana smiled.
Sabrina slightly narrowed her eyes suspiciously staring at her. It was as if she wanted Sabrina to know. Sabrina decided to play along with her.
“Actually…no…he didn’t.” Sabrina lied.
Ariana looked surprised. “Really?” she laughed. She then continued with a smirk on her lips as she spoke. “Nick is so funny. I met him back in our college days. Well…I didn’t go to Florida State with him, but I might as well have.”
“Oh..that’s right…he did tell me that you used to date a guy he went to college with.” Sabrina added.
Ariana laughed sarcastically. “Is that what he told you?”
Sabrina nodded forcing a fake smile on her face.
“That, Nick…he is so freaking cute. No…I never dated any of his player friends. Actually I used to work part time at a doctor’s office. I was like a candy striper. So, anyway, the doctor I worked for was the doctor for the athletic program at Florida State. So whenever Nick was playing football and get concussions, I would help Nick with the pills he would take. The doctor wouldn’t keep prescribing those kind of pills so I would like hook him up with that stuff. I was like his pill pusher!” Ariana laughed excitedly as if she just told a joke.
Sabrina only stared at her shocked to hear the news.
“And then…when he got into a really bad fight a few months ago…”Ariana stopped and widened her eyes at Sabrina as if a light bulb had just went off in her head. She then continued, “…wait a second. You are the one he got into a fight over. Wow. He almost lost his life because of you and then he married you. Wow.”
Sabrina furrowed her brows at her. Sabrina remained silent. She wondered how did she hear about the fight Nick was in with Jacob, Roger, and Paul, a few months ago.
Ariana continued with a smile, “…well, anyway…when he almost lost his life, and then he got all patched up, he took some pain pills for his wounds, right? Well, guess who came crawling back to me for more pain pills?” Ariana said proudly. She continued not allowing Sabrina to answer. “Me!” she laughed. “I mean…how can I say no to him, right? I mean you’re pregnant by him, so you know how hard it is to say no obviously.” Ariana laughed.
“Excuse me?” Sabrina said with an attitude.
Ariana slowly stopped laughing as her smile slowly faded when she noticed Sabrina was clearly upset. “Well…I should probably be going. I have a dental appointment on Monday so I won’t be in until about 10am. Those files on the bottom, are for your meeting with Heather and Richard at 9am. Don’t forget.” Ariana smiled as she flipped her red hair behind her shoulder. “Well, have a great weekend. I can’t believe Nick didn’t tell you.” Ariana smiled sweetly as she walked out of Sabrina’s office.
Sabrina stood up and rushed to close her office door. Once she closed her door, she leaned her back against the door thinking about what Ariana was saying to her. What did she mean by not being able to 'say no' to him? Did Nick have sex with her? Has Nick ever had sex with Heather? Were the reason all these women at this company looked at her like she was dumb because they knew something about Nick that she didn’t know? Sabrina raised her hand up to her small growing hard belly. Is Nick addicted to pain pills? She wondered thinking about all of their medications in the medicine cabinet.
A tear slowly trickled down her cheek as Sabrina thought about Nick. She wasn’t sure if she were upset with Nick for withholding this information or if she were just sad.
Nick lied to her about Ariana. What else had he been lying to her about, Sabrina wondered as she walked back to her desk. Sabrina wiped the tear away from her face and instantly heard a knock on her door. When she made sure she looked presentable, she told the person on the other side of the door to come in.
“Hey, yo!”
It was Kevin. He poked his head inside of her office.

It was Kevin. He poked his head inside of her office.
Kevin Henderson
_ “Busy?” He asked with his dimpled smile.
Sabrina smiled almost relieved that it was him. The only friendly face in the whole company as far as she was concerned.
Sabrina walked around her desk and sat down. “No. Im actually trying to wrap things up.”
“Oh okay cool. Well I just stopped by to say, enjoy your weekend. Stay off your feet, and relax your mind.” He smiled.
Sabrina smiled back at him. “Thanks, Kevin. You have no idea how much I need a friendly face right now.”
“Friendly and handsome face might I add.” Kevin teased her.
Sabrina snickered. “Yes. A very handsome face.”
“Ha! I knew you thought I was good looking.”
Sabrina laughed.
“Actually, I’d take a compliment from a beautiful pregnant woman any day.” He said flirtatiously. “Go home, Kevin.” Sabrina smiled at him.
Kevin laughed. “Alright, alright. Have a good one.” Kevin then turned to walk out of her office.
Just before closing her door, he smiled and winked at her.
Sabrina smiled at him as she shook her head.
“Thank you, Kevin.” Sabrina said softly to herself. Kevin making her laugh made her forget about the information she was just told from Ariana and Zoe. She was able to finish up on her work when her cell phone rung. She looked at the caller id and saw that it was Nick’s mother. Sabrina frowned wondering why would Sandra be calling her phone? She never calls her phone. Sandra has barely spoken to her since Sabrina had been living there. She wondered if Nick and the kids were okay. That made Sabrina quickly answer the phone.
“Hello?”
“Sabrina?”
“Hi.” Sabrina answered still puzzled by her call.
“Hi sweetie, its me, Nicholas’ mother, Sandra. How are you?”
“Im fine. How are you?”
“Wonderful. I hope I didn’t catch you at a bad time.”
Sabrina looked around her office work on her desk.
“Uhm, No…no, it’s okay. I was just wrapping things up at work, actually.”
“Oh good. So you have time?”
“Yes, ma’am.” Sabrina answered as she gathered her things to clear her desk.
“Well..let me first just start off by saying that I feel awful that I haven’t really spoken to you since you’ve moved down here a little over a month ago. I mean when I do call the house for Nick, all we say are our ‘hi how are you’s’ and that’s it. And that’s just not right.”
“Oh…no, it’s okay. I mean…it goes both ways.”
“Yes it does. You are absolutely right. We have to do better. And with that said, I know Nick’s birthday is tomorrow, and Im not sure what kind of plans you have for him…do you have any plans?”
“Well…actually…tomorrow we were—“
“Well, that’s okay…” Sandra said interrupting Sabrina. She continued, “…what about tonight? I was thinking of having a birthday dinner for Nick. Why don’t you guys come on over tonight around 7 or 8pm. Besides, I have yet to meet your son, and I think it would be a great opportunity. What do you say?”
Sabrina looked at her watch and saw that it was a little after 5pm.
“Okay. We will be over at 7pm. Should I tell Nick or…?”
“Sure, let him know. I tried to call him, but he didn’t answer his phone.”
“Okay…no problem. We’ll see you there.” Sabrina said and ended the call.
Sabrina finished gathering her things and turned off her computer as she thought about Nick and the things Ariana and Zoe told her just minutes before. For some reason she found herself getting angry again. She didn’t know when…but she was going to have to talk to Nick at some point. He was definitely hiding the truth from her.
Sabrina smiled almost relieved that it was him. The only friendly face in the whole company as far as she was concerned.

Part 2
Cody, Josslyn // Bottom: Sabrina's 16wks baby bump
_ Due to an accident and the traffic on the route back home, it took Sabrina a long time to get home. She didn’t get home until
about 6:30pm.
When she walked in, Cody was helping Josslyn with one of her toys. It was a nice gesture for Cody to be so sweet to Josslyn. Even though in the past he had told Sabrina that Josslyn was too much of a cry baby for him to like her. Sabrina had to tell him to be nice since she was so much younger than him. So, the sight of him helping her, made Sabrina smile.
“Hey mom!” Cody said as he hopped up and hugged her.
“Hey sweetie. How was school?”
“Good.”
“Just good?”
“Yep.” Cody said sitting back down on the floor to help Josslyn.
“Hi Jossy.” Sabrina greeted Josslyn with a smile.
Josslyn didn’t respond, she only looked up at Sabrina briefly. Josslyn had yet to warm up to Sabrina.
“Where’s Nick?” Sabrina asked.
“He went to take out the trash.” Cody answered. Cody then responded to Josslyn who was apparently picking up something Cody didn’t want her to touch. “No, no. You have to leave that there. That won’t work with this.” Cody said to Josslyn.
“Oh.” Josslyn simply stated as she concentrated on what Cody was doing.
Sabrina smiled and walked toward her bedroom. As she walked, Nick was walking thru the back door from the kitchen and saw Sabrina.
“Hey babe.” Nick said.
Sabrina didn’t bother to stop, instead she kept walking toward the bedroom. She quickly grabbed something to change into to prepare to go to Sandra’s house. Nick walked into the bedroom and closed the door behind him.
“Hey.” Nick said again.
“Hi.” Sabrina said flatly.
Nick walked up to her to give her a peck on the lips. Sabrina allowed him to do so and she quickly turned away.
“How was work?” Nick asked.
“Fine. Did you talk to your mom?”
“No. She called but I didn’t bother to answer. I wasn’t really trying to hear from her.” Nick said as he watched Sabrina change out of her clothes. “I was thinking we'd go out for dinner tonight. You have a taste for anything special?”
“Your mom called me. She wants us to go over to her house for dinner. She said she wanted to give you a birthday dinner.” Sabrina said as she walked to the bathroom.
Nick frowned at the thought. “Really?” He asked surprised.
“She wants us there at 7pm.” Sabrina informed him.
Nick looked at the time on his wrist watch. It was 10 min ‘til 7pm. Nick took a deep breath. “You told her yes?”
“Yes.” Sabrina answered coming out of the bathroom.
“Well…don’t you think you should have asked me first?” Nick responded.
Sabrina glared at Nick as she put on a long black strapless maxi dress that flowed down to her ankles. She then turned to look at herself in the mirror as she fluffed her hair. She turned to the side and embraced her small baby bump wondering if she looked fat.
“You look beautiful.” Nick said calmly as if reading her mind.
Sabrina only looked at him.
She then called out for Cody. Seconds later Cody opened their bedroom door with Josslyn close behind him.
“Yes?” Cody answered as he stepped thru the door.
“Go change shirts. Something nice and clean that doesn’t need to be ironed.” Sabrina instructed him.
“Where are we going?” Cody asked confused as Josslyn rushed up to Nick to show him the toy that Cody had fixed for her.
“We are going to Nick’s mother’s house. It’ll be your first time meeting her, so you need to look good.” Sabrina responded.
Cody shrugged his shoulders and said “Okay.” He then quickly walked out of their bedroom up to his room upstairs.
Nick sighed as he picked Josslyn up into his arms. “Let’s go Joss, looks like we’re going to see your grandmommy.”
After everyone was dressed, they all loaded into Nick’s car and headed over to his mother’s house. They ended up being forty-five minutes late. While Sabrina and Cody got out of the car, Nick unbuckled Josslyn and got her out of the car. Sabrina nervously flipped her long dark hair over to the side and closed up her black thin sweater as the cool evening night gave her goosebumps on her skin.
Josslyn ran up to the door while Nick tried to grab Sabrina’s hand. Sabrina moved her hand away. She wasn’t really trying to be affectionate with Nick considering how much of a liar she thought he was.

Sandra's Home
_ Sandra opened the door to see Josslyn in her pink and yellow
polka dot turtle neck shirt and blue jeans. “Hey pumpkin eater!” Sandra
joyously cried out with open arms. She picked her up and gave her a big hug.
“Did you miss me?” Josslyn asked Sandra.
“Of course! I always miss you!” Sandra said giving her a big hug and kiss.
Nick gestured for Cody and Sabrina to enter inside Sandra’s home first while he closed the door behind them. Sabrina smiled as she watched Sandra converse with Josslyn.
Nick felt his mother was engaged with Josslyn too long and felt she was ignoring Sabrina and Cody. Nick cleared his throat saying, “Mom…?”
Sandra looked in his direction and finally put Josslyn down. Sandra looked at her son and his manly physique as he wore a royal blue long sleeve v-neck thin sweater and a royal blue fitted baseball cap turned backwards. He reminded her of her ex-husband when he was younger so much it was almost shameful, Sandra thought. She then looked at Sabrina and smiled.
“Sabrina…hi, sweetie.” Sandra said as she extended her arms out to her giving her a large embrace.
“Hi, Sandra.” Sabrina smiled and welcomed the embrace.
Sandra pulled away and looked down at Sabrina’s son, Cody.
“Sandra, this is my son, Cody.” Sabrina said introducing Cody.
Cody had his hands stuck in his jeans pockets as shyly took one hand out to wave at Sandra. “Hello.” He then quickly replaced his hand back into his jeans.
“Codyyyy! Come hereee!” Josslyn yelled in the other room.
Cody hesitated to move, but turn to look at Sabrina as if asking if it was okay for him to see what Josslyn wanted. However, it was too late, Josslyn was already tugging on his arm and dragged him away into another room.
“Well..i guess she found her a playmate.” Sandra teased.
Sabrina lightly laughed.
Sandra looked up at Nick. “Don’t I get a hug or something?”
Nick slowly wrapped his arm around his mom. “Hey.” Nick said softly as he hugged her.
Sandra pulled away and raised her hand up to his face and pinched his cheek. “You look good, honey. Are those new earrings in your ears?”
Nick moved his face away from her hand. “Brin gave them to me as my early birthday present.” “Oh. Wasn’t that nice. They look lovely, Sabrina.”
“Thanks.” Sabrina smiled.
“Well come on in. Make yourselves comfortable. Dinner won’t be ready for another hour or so.” Sandra said with a smile as she looked at Sabrina and Nick up and down.
As Sabrina and Nick walked into her living room, Josslyn ran up to Nick. “Uhmm…daddy…uhmmm…can I…uhmm…can I show Cody…” her voice trailed off as if she were nervous to ask him anything as he sat down on the sofa next to Sabrina.
“What, baby?” Nick asked not understanding what she was trying to ask.
Cody then stepped up next to Sabrina and told Nick what Josslyn was trying to ask.
“Oh…yeah, sure. Just be careful.” Nick answered with a concerned expression.
Josslyn quickly grabbed Cody’s arm saying, “Cody let’s go!”
Cody reluctantly followed Josslyn upstairs.
Nick looked over at Sabrina. “Are you okay?” he asked softly.
“Yeah. Im fine.” Sabrina lied as she forced a smile on her face.
Nick wrapped his arm around her rubbing the small of her back. “Are you sure?” Nick asked. Sabrina slightly moved as if she didn’t want him touching her.
At that moment Sandra walked into the living room. She sat down in a nearby chair as she stared at both Nick and Sabrina, but mostly at Sabrina.
“Well…I must say…I still can’t believe you two kids are married.” She snickered.
Sabrina smiled while Nick just stared at his mother hoping she wouldn’t be rude.
“You have a lovely home, Sandra.” Sabrina stated.
“Oh, thank you. I really need to do some redecorating. I’ve had it like this for so long.”
“Well, I think it’s beautiful.”
Sandra just smiled at her. She then asked, “So, your son, Cody. He seems to be getting along with Jossy very well.”
“Yeah…Cody seems to be like the handy man for her since he is always helping her with her toys.” “Oh, that’s cute.” Sandra simply stated. “How are you getting along with Jossy?” Sandra asked Sabrina.
“Mom…” Nick said wanting his mom to stop that line of questioning.
“It’s okay. I mean…I think we’re getting along great.” Sabrina responded.
“Considering you barely know her.” Sandra added without smiling.
“Mom.” Nick said again as if warning his mother.
Sabrina glanced at Nick and back at his mother.
“You’re right. Considering how quickly Nick and I got together. I understand your concern.”
“What’s for dinner?” Nick asked changing the subject.
“It’s a surprise.” Sandra smiled at her son.
“Do you need any help with anything?” Sabrina asked.
“No, no. I got it. You just sit your cute little pregnant self down.” Sandra rose to her feet to go back in the kitchen.
Once Sandra walked out of the room, Nick turned to Sabrina. “We don’t have to stay here, you know.”
“I know. This is not about me. This is about you and your mom. She’s doing this for you.” Sabrina said flatly without looking at him.
At that moment, the doorbell rang.
Nick continued to stare at Sabrina. “Are you going to tell me what’s bothering you later?”
“I said I was fine, Nick.” Sabrina said finally making eye contact with Nick.
“Brin, I know you. You’re acting weird.”
“No Im not.”
“Yes you are.”
“No, Im not.”
"Yes…you are. Look, Im not trying to start an argument with you, Brin. This is my birthday weekend. We’re supposed to be having fun.” Nick said slightly frustrated in a low tone.
Sabrina started to say something to him when Sandra walked into the living room.
“Look who I have with me.” Sandra said excitedly.
“Hi guys.”
It was Joanna. She came around the corner waddling, carrying what seem like a huge beach ball under her shirt. She smirked at both Nick and Sabrina.

Chapter 12
Sandra's Home & Joanna's 8month belly
_ Nick immediately looked at his mother as he furrowed his
eyebrows. Why would she have Joanna here while they were there?
Sabrina forced a smile on her face, although she was not happy to see Joanna. This would be their first interaction with each other since the hospital. They never spoken to each other, and Sabrina liked it like that…but that night was clearly going to be different.
“Joanna, what are you doing here?” Nick asked slightly irritated.
Before Joanna had a chance to respond, Sandra spoke up as she help to escort Joanna in a chair as if she couldn’t walk on her own.
“Now, now…I invited her. I invited her and her sister Miley, but she said Miley had plans of her own. It’s more the merrier.” Sandra finished with a smile.
Joanna smiled thanking Sandra. She then asked, “Where’s Joss?”
“Oh, she’s upstairs playing. I’ll get her.” Sandra said and dipped out of the livingroom leaving Nick, Sabrina and Joanna alone.
There was silence in the room for a brief second. Sabrina avoided everyone’s eye contact, Joanna stared at Sabrina, while Nick glared at Joanna. Joanna then turned her attention to Nick.
“Well…Nick, I don’t think I’ve really been introduced to your wife. Im Joanna…” she said suddenly smiling at Sabrina. She added, “I would get up and shake your hand, but Im a little handicapped.”
Sabrina thought that was Joanna's way of saying that she should get up to greet her. Playing the nice person card, Sabrina stood up and walked over to Joanna and greeted her.
“Hi. Sabrina. I remember seeing you a few months ago, when Nick was in the hospital.” Sabrina quickly took her seat back on the sofa next to Nick.
“Oh…that’s right….”
Suddenly Josslyn ran into the living room and hugged Joanna. “Mommy! What are you doing here?”
“Hey sweetie! Well, your grandma said I could come over and eat dinner with you guys. Is that okay?” Joanna responded sitting Josslyn on her lap.
Josslyn cheered happily.
Cody walked up to Sabrina and leaned over the sofa arm rest as he whispered to Sabrina saying, “Is your stomach going to get that big?”
Sabrina snickered and whispered back to him as she pinched his cheeks, “I hope not.”
“Oh…is that your son, Sabrina?” Joanna asked as she ran her fingers thru Josslyn’s hair.
Sabrina gently rubbed Cody’s back and responded nicely, “Yes. This is Cody.” Sabrina smiled. “Oh…hello, Cody.” Joanna smiled.
“Hello.” Cody said flatly as he leaned into Sabrina for comfort.
Nick saw his mother walking around in her kitchen forcing him to immediately get up to talk to her. He walked right up to her as she stood over the stove.
“What the hell, mom?”
“Excuse me?” Sandra said as she frowned looking up at him.
“Why is Joanna here?”
“Because I invited her, Nicholas. The girl has to eat too, you know.”
“I thought this was a birthday dinner for me? Why would you invite her when my family is here.” Sandra smacked her teeth. “Has it ever occurred to you that everyone should be here and get along as we bring in these two innocent babies?”
“That’s fuc—“
“Sandra, I came in here to see if you needed any help?” Joanna unknowingly interrupted Nick as she made her way to the other side of Sandra.
As she walked around Nick, she placed her hand on Nick’s torso giving him a light rub and squeeze as she passed. Nick just looked at her as she walked passed him.
“Well…why don’t you have a seat at the table and if you feel up to it, can you cut these green beans up for me?”
“Sure.” Joanna said happily.
Nick stared at his mother and said in a harsh whisper, “How come when Sabrina asked you if you needed help, you didn’t want her to do anything?”
Sandra smacked her teeth and pushed Nick away from her saying, “Son…please don’t be childish.” She walked over toward Joanna at the table.
Nick turned to walk out of the kitchen to see where Sabrina was. Sabrina was in the living room talking to Cody and Josslyn.
“Joss, why don’t you take Cody back upstairs. We’ll call you guys when dinner is ready.”
“Mmkay.” Josslyn said.
Cody slowly followed behind Josslyn back upstairs.
Nick saw Sabrina getting up from the sofa. He quickly walked up to her. “Are you okay?”
“Nick…Im fine.” She said trying to walk around him.
“Where are you going?”
“I have to use the bathroom, if you must know.” Sabrina said looking up at him.
“Are you mad at me?” Nick asked blocking her and feeling guilty about his mom’s actions.
“I will be if you don’t let me go to the bathroom.”
“Give me a kiss.” Nick softly demanded before letting her pass him.
Sabrina looked up at him in disbelief. She then raised her chin up gesturing for him to lean down so she could kiss him. Nick leaned down and kissed her lips. Sabrina quickly pulled away, but Nick leaned further into her pulling her back into him making the kiss linger. Sabrina raised her hands up to his muscular chest pushing him back.
“Nick…”
“I love you.” Nick said as he slowly pulled away.
“I know.” Sabrina said as she walked passed him.
“Nick!” Nick heard his mother call out to him from the kitchen.
Nick walked into the kitchen looking at his mother.
“Honey…you know what I forgot?”
“What?” Nick asked slightly annoyed.
“The gravy. I can’t have this turkey without the gravy.” Sandra said looking at Nick.
“So…?”
“So, go to the store and get me two cans of gravy. Thank you, honey.”
“Now?” Nick asked annoyed.
“Yes.” Sandra said firmly.
Nick took a deep breath trying to control his frustration.
“I’ll come with you.” Joanna smiled as she volunteered.
“Nah..I’ll go alone.” Nick said quickly as he reached in his jean pockets and pulled out his car keys.
Nick started to walk the opposite way to tell Sabrina, but his mother stopped him.
“Hey! Where are you going? The door is right there.”
“I was just—“
“She’ll be fine. Just go.” Sandra said pushing him out of the door.
As Nick walked outside of the house toward his car, he worried about Sabrina. She was going to be in there alone with his mother and Joanna... The two best friends. Nick figured he’d better hurry back.
Sabrina forced a smile on her face, although she was not happy to see Joanna. This would be their first interaction with each other since the hospital. They never spoken to each other, and Sabrina liked it like that…but that night was clearly going to be different.

_ Sabrina walked into the kitchen wondering where Nick was
since she didn’t see him in the living room. She saw Joanna and Sandra laughing
and talking as if they were having a good time.
Sabrina cleared her throat as she stepped a little more into the kitchen. The women immediately calmed their laughing and talking when they noticed Sabrina.
“So, where’s Nick?”
“He went to the store. He’ll be back.” Sandra said as she stirred the food in a pot.
“Oh…are you sure you don’t need me to do anything, Sandra?” Sabrina asked.
“Well, if you really want to help, Sabrina, you can help Joanna with those green beans.”
Sabrina nodded and walked over to the kitchen table.
Joanna stared at Sabrina in silence.
Once Sabrina sat down, Joanna plastered a smile on her face, saying, “Ms. Sandra, doesn’t Sabrina look so cute with her little bitty baby bump?”
“Yes she does.” Sandra said with a smile.
“Thanks.” Sabrina said with a smile as she began cutting some green beans.
“So, how far long are you now? You should be about 4 months now, right?” Joanna asked curiously.
“Yeah…Im 16 weeks to be exact.”
Joanna laughed loudly. “I can’t even keep up with the weeks anymore. All I know is that in the next month or so, this baby needs to be out of me. This is my 8th month and it has been rough.”
At that Sandra began talking about how Nick had made her a miserable pregnant woman. Joanna and Sabrina both laughed at Sandra and her stories.
“Yeah…I hear ya Ms. Sandra. Sometimes I just wish Nick could have the kids while he’s busy trying to make some, right, Sabrina?” Joanna said as she narrowed her eyes at Sabrina with a smirk on her lips.
Sabrina only stared at her briefly and slowly allowed a smile to sweep across her full lips. “I guess.” Sabrina stated quietly.
“Grandmommy! The television is stuck again! Come fix it please!” Josslyn yelled from the steps.
Sandra shook her head at the thought of her granddaughter. “That little girl is something else, I tell you. I’ll be right back ladies.” Sandra left the kitchen leaving Sabrina and Joanna alone.
As soon as Sandra left, Joanna said, “So…how’s the married life for you and Nick?” Joanna stared intently at Sabrina waiting for her to respond.
“I can’t complain.” Sabrina answered.
Joanna smirked and chuckled. “You must have some magic powers between those legs to get Nick to marry you…”
Sabrina raised her eyes up to Joanna and narrowed her eyes at her. “Im sorry, what?”
Joanna leaned forward up to the table. “How’d you do it? How did you trap him into marrying you? Because it’s just funny how one minute we’re in the bed together, and then he goes to his little school reunion and then he’s in the bed with you. Knocks you up, and puts a ring on it…? Did you put something in his drink or what?” Joanna said seriously as she glared at Sabrina waiting for her to respond.
Sabrina was speechless. She couldn’t believe that she was saying these things to her at a time like this. Before Sabrina had a chance to respond, Joanna started laughing and continued to cut the green beans.
“Im just joking with you, Sabrina. Don’t have a fucking cow.” She said as she shook her head.
Sabrina looked down at the green beans and continued to cut them as she remained silent in deep thoughts. She then smiled. “It is funny now that you say it like that, Joanna…” Sabrina said as she continued to look down at the green beans.
Joanna looked up at her as Sabrina spoke.
Sabrina continued, “It’s really funny how you apparently had him for all those years to yourself, and as soon as he and I meet up again at our class reunion, I was able to make him forget about you, and want to be with me forever.” Sabrina giggled. “Yes…very funny.”
Joanna frowned and literally wanted to throw the knife she had in her hand right between Sabrina’s eyes. Joanna looked around for Sandra to make sure she wasn’t around before she said anything else.
“Look, bitch…Nick hasn’t forgotten about me because Im still carrying his child. And if he really forgot about me, why hasn’t he been able to stop coming around, huh?”
“Clearly, bitch, it’s because he has a daughter with you.” Sabrina said angrily.
“No, you stupid bitch, I have two of his kids. I saw your ass at the class reunion dinner, and guess what? I fucked him that night, that’s why we were late coming to the dinner. We made our grand entrance that night. And guess what, bitch? We are still fucking each other which is why Im carrying his son now.”
Sabrina was so hurt by what she was saying. Clearly Joanna was crazy.
“Joanna, it doesn’t matter what you say, because guess what? He put the ring on my finger…bitch.”
“Well let’s see how long that ring will stay on your finger. As soon as I have this baby and everyone sees how this is his child, he will dump your ass…bitch.” Joanna spat angrily thru her teeth.
As if on cue, Nick walked thru the kitchen door with a grocery bag in his hand. He noticed how quiet the two women were at the table. He sensed there was a little tension in the air.
“Hey.” Nick said uncertain as he looked at both Joanna and Sabrina.
At that moment, Sandra walked downstairs. “Oh good! Thank you honey for going to the store for me.”
“You’re welcome.” Nick said flatly as he stared at Sabrina noticing how upset she looked.
“Oh, Joanna…do you have that bobby pin I asked you about earlier? I wanted to replace it in the collection I had for Jossy.”
“Oh yeah..sure!” Joanna said sweetly.
“Hey, Nick, can you hand me my purse? It’s the same purse that you had reminded me about from last night…remember?” Joanna said with a smirk as she looked at Sabrina. She wanted to make sure Sabrina heard her say the word ‘last night’.
Nick retreated her purse and handed it over to her oblivious to her tone.
Sabrina thought for a moment. Last night? Nick was over there last night? Sabrina felt her emotions start to take over. Were the things Joanna had said the truth? Sabrina quickly got up from the table avoiding everyone’s eye contact, “Excuse me.” She rushed off to the bathroom.
Joanna smiled victoriously.
Sandra looked at Sabrina oddly, wondering if she were okay.
Nick quickly followed her. But he was too late as the bathroom door slammed in his face.
“Brin? Baby, are you okay?” Nick asked thru the door.
Sabrina allowed a few tears to escape down her cheeks before quickly dabbing them away so she wouldn’t mess up her make up. She then tried to speak strongly, saying, “Im fine, Nick. I just had to use the bathroom again.”
“Baby..are you sure?” Nick asked softly pressing his head against the door.
“Yes. Im fine.” Sabrina lied.
As time passed everyone was sitting around the table. At the table going counter clockwise, Sandra sat at the head of the table with Nick sitting next to her, then Josslyn, then Joanna who was at the end of the table, then Cody and then Sabrina who was sitting across from Nick.
Josslyn, Sandra and Joanna dominated the conversation.
Joanna proceeded to act as if her and Sabrina’s conversation alone had never happened.
Nick knew something was wrong with Sabrina but he didn’t know what. He kept his eyes on her thru out the whole dinner.
Sabrina remained quiet only saying a few things directing it toward Cody or to Sandra and Josslyn.
Joanna knew that Sabrina was upset and couldn’t help but smile at the fact that she was able to get under Sabrina’s skin.
“Dessert anyone?” Sandra asked as she grabbed her plate from the table.
“Me!” Josslyn yelled while Cody raised his hand as if he were in a school class.
Nick looked over at Josslyn and patted her leg. “Uhm…I think we’re going home.”
“Without dessert? But Nicholas, I got you an ice cream birthday cake.” Sandra said slightly disappointed.
Nick stood up grabbing his plate, and collecting Josslyn, Cody, and Sabrina’s plate from the table. “Thanks, but no thanks.” Nick said flatly to his mother.
“What?” Sandra said with disappointment. She looked at Sabrina. “Sabrina…don’t you want some dessert?”
Sabrina smiled faintly at Sandra. “No, ma’am…I think I will pass. Im stuffed. Dinner was delicious, thank you so much.”
“So you all are leaving?” Sandra asked in shock.
“Well…”
“Yeah.” Nick quickly interrupted Sabrina.
“Can I take some home?” Cody asked out loud.
“Yes, of course.” Sandra said getting ready to pack a to-go plate of dessert.
“Well you guys have a safe trip back home. Happy Birthday, Nick.” Joanna said pleasantly to Nick. “Thanks.” Nick said avoiding Joanna’s eye contact.
Sabrina walked up to Sandra thanking her again for dinner.
“Sure, honey. We need to get together one day. Just you and me.” Sandra responded to Sabrina.
“That sounds great.” Sabrina said with a forced smile on her face.
Right at that moment, Sabrina just wanted to curl up and cry herself to sleep.
Sandra hugged Cody and Josslyn before they left out the door as well. She then hugged Nick speaking only loud enough for him to hear, “You’ll thank me later.”
Nick only looked at his mother in response and before walking out the door he looked at Joanna saying, “See you later.”
“Bye Nick.” Joanna said flirtatiously with a smile.

Nick's Car
_ Nick got into the car and looked over at Sabrina. She held
her hand up to her lips as she stared out her window as if she were in deep
thoughts. Nick could hear Josslyn talking in the back seat about everything of
nothing.
Nick turned the engine on and put the car in reverse as he backed out of his mother’s driveway to go home. Nick turned the radio up so the kids couldn’t hear what they were saying in the front seat as he drove home.
“You want to talk about it?” Nick said glancing over at Sabrina.
Sabrina remained silent as she continued to stare out of the window.
Nick grabbed her hand as it rested on her lap. He started to bring her hand up to his lips, but Sabrina immediately snatched her hand away from his grasp as she continued to stare out her window.
Nick noticed her brows were furrowed. Nick sighed and placed both hands on the driving wheel. Yep…she was upset with him, but Nick didn’t know why. He would soon find out, he was sure of it.

_ Once they got home, Nick made sure Josslyn was taken care of
and prepared her for bed. Cody ate his fair share of ice cream and cake while
he stayed up in his room.
When Sabrina checked on him to make sure he was okay, Cody stopped her just before she walked out. “Hey mom?” Sabrina turned around, “Yes?”
“Are you okay?”
Sabrina smiled at him. She walked back over to him and gently grabbed his face and kissed his cheek. “I love you so very much. Never forget that. I don’t know what I would do without you.”
“I love you too, mom.” Cody said as he licked his fork full of icing and ice cream. He then added, “You know you can talk to me about anything, right?”
Sabrina laughed. “Thanks, sweetie. I’ll keep that in mind.”
Cody nodded as he continued to eat his dessert.
“Don’t stay up too late, okay?”
“Okay.” Cody said sweetly.
Sabrina kissed the crown of his head and walked out of his bedroom closing up his door.
Sabrina walked down the stairs and headed to the bedroom. Sabrina sat on the edge of the bed and began taking her flat shoes off. Sabrina took her sweater off and laid back on the bed covering her face with her hands in deep thoughts. She was starting to think that maybe it wasn’t a good idea to move there. Why was her life so difficult all of a sudden? This wasn’t how it was supposed to be. Those feelings of feeling hated by everyone when she was 14 came surging back into her like a lightning bolt.
She remembered only wanting to lay in bed and cry herself to sleep and later be held by the comforting strong arms of her father. Oh, how she missed her father. The thought of her father immediately made her sad as tears welled in her eyes.
Why was she so unhappy? She needed to figure out how to fix it. Sabrina ran her fingers up across her forehead into her hair as she rested on her back on the bed. She then rolled over to her side and began crying thinking about her life.
After allowing a few tears to fall she thought about Nick and Joanna. She knew Nick would be coming in their bedroom soon, so she quickly sat up and rushed into the bathroom closing the door and locking it. She looked at her red eyes and nose in the mirror as she tried to wipe her tears away. She then turned the sink faucet on and bent down to splash water into her face.
She then thought about Ariana. Sabrina quickly stood up straight grabbing a towel to dry her face. She then opened the medicine cabinet looking for any pills prescribed to Nick. She looked on the bottom shelf first. She only saw her prenatal pills, cough medicine, asper crème and other ointments. She looked on the second shelf. There was nothing there but rubbing alcohol, vitamins, Tylenol and other over the counter pills. She then briefly stood on the tip of her toes to look on the top shelf. She moved things around to get a better look. She saw nothing but a box of band-aids, extra toothpaste, dental floss, and more over the counter medicine.
A sigh of relief escaped her lips. There were no pills. Sabrina was about to close the cabinet when something caught her eye. Apparently she didn’t move the large band-aid box to the side far enough. She grabbed the band-aid box pulling it off the shelf, and there was a brown bottle with a few capsule pills inside. Sabrina frowned and grabbed the bottle. She read the label, and saw that it was for Nick with his old apartment address listed. She opened the cap to the bottle to examine the pills more. She slowly poured the bottle of capsule pills into her hand.
The sudden sound of knocking on the door made Sabrina jump.
“Brin…are you okay in there?”
Sabrina quickly raised her hand up to her chest to ease her heartbeat from the scare Nick had just given her. She looked around on the floor and saw that all of the pills that were once in the bottle, were now scattered on the bathroom floor.
Sabrina mumbled a curse as she quickly bent down to the floor to pick up each pill. ‘Uhhh…yeah…Im fine.” Sabrina responded as she crawled around on the floor making sure she picked up every pill.
She then heard Nick attempt to open the door. However, he was unable to enter since she had locked the door.
“Brin why is the door locked? What are you doing?” Nick asked with concern on the other side of the door.
“Im using the bathroom, Nick. Just give me a second, geez.” Sabrina said as she picked up the last pill she saw on the floor.
Sabrina hoisted herself up to her feet by holding on to the sink. She opened her hand looking at the pills. She couldn’t believe Nick had been hiding this from her. How often did he take these? When did he take these?
Sabrina wondered what he would do if he didn’t have them. She wanted to know if he really was addicted to the pills. She never noticed him to be in pain or complaining about any pain…so he shouldn’t have these…right? Sabrina wondered.
Sabrina walked closer toward the toilet and dropped the pills into the toilet bowl as she frowned at the thought of him taking them. She flushed the toilet watching the pills drain away. Sabrina then looked at the empty bottle in her hand. She wasn’t sure what to do with it. She opened the linen closet and hid the bottle behind some towels in the corner. Sabrina took a deep breath and walked out of the bathroom.
Nick was sitting on the bed waiting patiently for Sabrina to come out of the bathroom. He had just took his fitted baseball cap off and was running his fingers thru his short curls as he looked up at her coming thru the bathroom door. Sabrina turned the bathroom light off as she glared at him.
“We need to talk.” Nick said softly.
“Yeah…we do.” Sabrina said lightly patting her small baby bump over her dress.
“So…I know when I talked to you earlier, everything was okay between us. And then…something changed. Im not sure what…but I have a feeling I know what happened. And it has something to do with my mother. I don’t know why you allow my mother to upset you. I told you not to pay her any attention.” Nick said as he leaned forward looking up at her as he placed his elbows on his knees.
Sabrina folded her arms and rolled her eyes. “It’s not your mother Im upset about, Nick.”
Nick gave her a blank stare waiting for her to continue. “Okay…great. So, what’s the problem?” Nick said as he sat up.
“It’s you, Nick.”
Nick gave her a confused expression. “Oh…kay….and what did I do?”
Sabrina rubbed her forehead as if she had a headache.
She finally responded as she leaned against the dresser. “Nick…I just need you to tell me the truth. For once. I don’t understand why you feel that it’s necessary to lie to me.”
“What are you talking about? I haven’t lied to you about anything.” Nick protested calmly.
“You’re doing it now, Nick.” Sabrina said frustrated.
Nick remained silent still puzzled. He threw his hands out to his sides wanting her to elaborate. Sabrina slowly walked to the other side of the room and sat on the chair at the vanity mirror.
“Whatever I ask you…can you please just answer me truthfully?”
“I always am truthful.” Nick responded staring intently at her.
He was starting to get the feeling that Joanna made have said something to her while he was gone to the store.
Sabrina continued, “Where were you yesterday?”
“Work.”
“Where were you before work?” Sabrina asked avoiding his eye contact until he spoke.
Nick thought for a moment. Yes, Joanna must have said something.
Nick responded keeping his eyes on Sabrina. “I woke up, and before going to work, I stopped over at Joanna’s place. Why? What did she say?” Nick asked curiously.
Sabrina narrowed her eyes at him. “Why didn’t you tell me? And why are you going over there?” Nick defended himself saying, “Well, first off, I didn’t know I had to tell you every move I made when it came down to checking on my daughter.”
Sabrina smacked her teeth. “Im not worried about your daughter, Nick! It’s Joanna that Im worried about.”
Nick frowned raising his voice a bit. “Im not going to see her!”
Nick stopped as he regained his composure. He looked down and thought for a moment. He then looked up at Sabrina and noticed how pissed off she looked. Nick smiled and stood up to walk over toward Sabrina. Sabrina looked up at him as he smoothly leaned down hovering over her as she sat in the chair. Nick rested his palms on the vanity desk, barricading Sabrina forcing her to lean back away from him.
Nick smirked as he looked into her eyes. “Jealous?”
“Nick, stop.” Sabrina said annoyed trying to push him away.
“Stop what? Im not doing anything.” Nick swooned as he zoomed in on her neck with his lips.
It had been a long time since she felt Nick’s lips against her skin in this matter. She had to admit, it felt good. However, she quickly snapped out of the trance he was putting on her and pushed him away.
“Stop it, Nick. Im so upset with you right now, you have no idea.”
“Why? Wait…let me guess. You want to argue and then have make up sex, right?” Nick smirked as he slowly leaned back into her kissing her bare shoulder.
Sabrina pushed Nick away once again and rose to her feet to move away from him.
Nick watched her move away as he in turn sat down in the chair feeling disappointed.
“Nick, she’s in love with you.”
Nick sighed. “No she’s not. She’s… something…but she’s not in love.”
Sabrina stared at Nick. She placed her hands on her hips. “What did you do while you were over there?”
Nick rubbed the back of his neck as he avoided her eye contact. “Joanna didn’t feel like cooking anything and Joss was hungry…so before I went to work I stopped by to drop some food off for them. Then I left.” Nick finished as he raised his eyes back up to Sabrina.
Sabrina stared at him suspiciously. “Did you have sex with her?”
Nick frowned as if he had ate something sour. “What?! Hell no! Why would you even ask me something like that? Are you kidding me?”
“Im so serious right now, Nick.” Sabrina said with a serious expression on her face.
“Babe…” Nick stood up and walked towards Sabrina. He continued, “…I don’t know what kind of lies Joanna may have told you tonight, but she’s crazy. Please don’t believe anything she says.” “Well she said you were over there yesterday and doesn’t look like she was lying about that. I can’t believe you didn’t tell me.” Sabrina said walking away from him.
“Okay, Im sorry. I didn’t know I had to tell you every little move I made.” Nick said watching her move about in their bedroom. He continued with sarcasm in his voice, “Shall I tell you that before I went to work, I stopped by the gas station first and picked up a candy bar for myself and Joss too? Should I tell you that I then went to McDonalds’s and ordered Joss the kids meal chicken nuggets and cheeseburger meal for Joanna? Oh, wait, maybe I should tell you—“
“Why don’t you tell me about how your father slept with your boss helping you get that promotion, and how you and your father manage to get her daughter to hire me just so you could force me to move here. How about that?” Sabrina interrupted him with an attitude.
“What?” Nick said in an angry tone yet slightly shocked at what she said.
Sabrina stopped and stared at him.
Silence fell between them as if they were in a staring game trying to intimidate one another. Sabrina saw a little hurt in his eye.
She looked away and smacked her teeth. “Never mind.”
“No…what did you just say?” Nick said firmly as he narrowed his eyes at her.
“Never mind, Nick. Im just going to take a shower and go to bed.”
Nick quickly grabbed her arm and stopped her as he glared at her. “No…we are talking about this. What did you just say about my dad?”
“Ow, Nick…you’re hurting my arm.” Sabrina frowned at him trying to release her arm from his grip. “Well, don’t just say shit and try to walk away like you never said it. Now what did you say about my father.” Nick said frowning at her as he still held her arm.
“Nick, seriously, let go of me!” Sabrina said trying to snatch her arm away.
Nick let go of her arm as he continued to tower over her.
“God...what is wrong with you!” Sabrina yelled at him as she softly caressed her arm to relieve the pain Nick had pressured into her arm.
“Stop walking away from me when Im asking you a question.” Nick said calmly still narrowing his eyes at her.
“It’ not important, alright? It’s just something I heard and I shouldn’t have brought it up.”
“What did you hear?”
Sabrina still held her arm as she looked up at Nick. He looked angry and clenched his jaw muscles as he looked down at her. Sabrina knew that even though Nick didn’t always get along with his father, he never liked for anyone to talk negatively about him…including her. And that was a fact ever since they were kids.
Sabrina talked quietly as she looked down. “I just heard that your father slept with your boss. That’s how you got that promotion.” She raised her eyes up at Nick.
“And you believe that shit? Who told you that?”
“Just somebody at work.” Sabrina responded softly.
“Well it’s not true.” Nick said calmly.
Sabrina looked up at him with a slight pout. “Well…which part?”
“All of it.” Nick quickly responded speaking firmly.
Sabrina continued to look up at him in silence trying to read him, wondering if he were telling the truth.
Nick sighed. “Look…Im sorry for hurting your arm.” He said as he lightly rubbed the bare skin of her arm. He then leaned forward and kissed her forehead and walked away heading toward their bedroom door.
“Where are you going?” Sabrina asked confused.
“Out. I’ll be back.” Nick said opening the door and walking out.
“Nick.” Sabrina called out to him but Nick kept walking.
Sabrina followed behind him and saw him leave out of the back door. Sabrina suddenly became worried as she bit her lower lip. She ran toward the living room and looked out the window. She saw Nick pull out of the driveway and drive off.
Sabrina felt bad. Why would she believe everything these women who hated her so much, over her best friend and husband who has done nothing but love her and be there for her?
Sabrina picked up the phone to call his cell phone. However, when she heard the ringing on the other end of the phone, she heard Nick’s cell phone ringing somewhere in the house. She walked into their bedroom and saw Nick’s cell phone laying on their bed lit up because she was currently calling it. Sabrina ended the call and picked up his cell phone reading the caller id.
It read: Home Sweet Home.
Sabrina sighed. She didn’t know where Nick was going or when he was coming back. She looked down at his phone wondering if she should go thru it. Her curiosity was getting the best of her. She began scrolling down his contact list. She didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. She saw a few names she never heard him mention before. She then scrolled thru his text messages.
She saw a lot of messages from Joanna. Some read:
|| Hurry! I need U! ||
|| Call me when u get off ||
|| Don’t forget to call me later ||
|| Miss you…call me ||
Sabrina frowned as she read those text messages. Why was she always texting him?
She then looked thru his sent messages in response to her messages. It read:
|| B there shortly ||
|| ok ||
|| I will ||
|| will call u later ||
Sabrina then looked thru his call log. It was almost every other day he talked to Joanna. It was always during the time he got off from work to the time when Sabrina would remember Nick came home from work.
Sabrina wondered why would he have to talk to her so often? Sabrina was angry as she thought about Joanna and the harsh things she said.
Sabrina abruptly threw his phone across the room, forcing it to hit the wall making a shattering thud sound.
-----------------------
After taking a shower, and laying in bed waiting for Nick’s return, Sabrina grew impatient. It was almost 1:45 in the morning. Nick had been gone for over an hour. Sabrina’s anger was at the highest level.
She got out of bed and began pacing the floor thru out the 1st floor of their house. She sat down at the kitchen table playing with her hair as it flowed around one shoulder.
She couldn’t believe Nick just left without telling her where he was going.
Fifteen minutes later, she finally heard his car pull up in the driveway and the lights flash a reflection thru the window. Sabrina remained seated at the table and waited for him to come in as she fumed with anger. She rested against the back of the chair and folded her arms staring at the door.
Seconds later, Nick stumbled thru the door. He looked at Sabrina in shock to see her sitting down at the kitchen table.
“Heyyy…baby. What are you doing still up?”
Sabrina noticed a slur in his speech, and the glossy look in his eye. He was drunk.
“You’re drunk?”
Nick looked around the kitchen as if he was trying to concentrate on what she just said. “No.” “Where the hell have you been?” Sabrina asked with anger in her eyes.
“I needed to get away for a second.”
Sabrina narrowed her eyes at him and hopped up from the table. She walked into her bedroom and shut the door behind her, locking it shut.
Just as Sabrina started to climb into bed, she heard Nick trying to open the door. He knocked on the door and calmly called out for Sabrina. “Brin, open the door.”
Silence.
He knocked again. "Brin..."
Silence.
He knocked once more. “Sabrina!” he said louder with annoyance in his voice.
A second later Sabrina heard Nick kick the door hard and say a curse.
Then there was complete silence.

Some read:
|| Hurry! I need U! ||
|| Call me when u get off ||
|| Don’t forget to call me later ||
|| Miss you…call me ||
Sabrina frowned as she read those text messages. Why was she always texting him?
She then looked thru his sent messages in response to her messages. It read:
|| B there shortly ||
|| ok ||
|| I will ||
|| will call u later ||
